I’d like to get DH a game for Christmas - probably as one of several smaller things, rather than one big spend, but open to all ideas! Games we have/he likes include:

7 Wonders
Flux
Hive
Revolution
Settlers
Saboteur

He’s hit and miss with Pandemic and Codenames. Bonus points for games with a decent two player version! Anyone got any good suggestions? Smile

We just got Quacks of Quidlinberg which is good, despite the stupid name! 2-4 players and the 2 player version is good.

Ellapaella · 10/12/2019 22:22

Forbidden Island

EduCated · 10/12/2019 22:27

Oh I’d forgotten about Forbidden Island - i think it’s one he played and enjoyed at a games night, though his hit and miss-ness with Pandemic is about the fact it’s collaborative. FI is too isn’t it?

Investigating Quacks, thank you!

The Resistance would be my top pick!

StringyPotatoes · 10/12/2019 22:35

Yes, Forbidden Island is co-operative, As is its sequel, Forbidden Desert. Forbidden Desert is better though IMHO

I'd recommend:
Settlers of Catan
Buccaneer
Survive: Escape from Atlantis
Ticket to Ride
New York 1901

PandaG · 10/12/2019 22:39

Yes to Ticket to Ride - Europe version my favourite but not played one we don't like.
Dominion works well with 2 players as well as more - is a deck building game
Azul good for 2 (or 3 or 4), is lovely and tactile too.
Sans Soucci ? Dont often see that recommended but my circle of gamers really like it

EduCated · 10/12/2019 22:44

I’ve asked for Ticket to Ride myself Grin

Stringy Would Forbidden Desert make sense without having played Island? Struggling to tell online, though probably just me being dim.

Carcassone is a favourite here. You can get expansion packs to mix it up as well.

happymrsc · 10/12/2019 22:52

Quacks is awesome, I second that!

Ellapaella · 10/12/2019 23:05

@EduCated yes you play as a team against the game. They have a new version now called forbidden desert - your DH night enjoy that? It's a bit more complex than FI.

Ellapaella · 10/12/2019 23:06

Sorry cross post.

BiblioX · 11/12/2019 06:48

The Storymaster’s Tales, Weirding Woods. Brilliant fun, cards/RPG hybrid, 1+ players (2 players works really well).

imsorryiasked · 11/12/2019 07:18

Jaipur is good for 2 players, quite quick and easy to learn too.

StringyPotatoes · 11/12/2019 07:40

@EduCated
Yes, Forbidden Desert is a stand-alone game. It has similarities to Forbidden Island but is slightly more complex - the storm cards make the sand accumulate on tiles in the same way as the infection cards spread the diseases.

This possibly does not sell it to you but I like it for the same reasons as I like Pandemic!

EduCated · 11/12/2019 07:53

Grin Well my list of games I want is growing!

Forbidden Island/Desert are definitely on the shortlist. I really like the look of Quacks but just not sure DH will be as excited about it as I am (so it may go on my birthday list!). Same with Azul - it looks beautiful.

We have and like Carcassonne but for some reason we rarely seem to get round to it.

Will investigate the others mentioned, thank you!

milienhaus · 11/12/2019 07:56

Splendour is great for 2 players, also Dominion.

Simkin · 11/12/2019 08:04

Yes, what milienhaus said, both of them.

Nan0second · 11/12/2019 16:24

All creatures big and small (2 player Agricola) is the best 2 player game ever.
I also like castles of burgundy, castles of mad king ludvic, battleground and lost cities

PopGoesTheWeaz · 11/12/2019 21:03

I'm getting DG Five Tribes which looks good. His favourite is Splendour which surplanted Catan. Spendor is a bit like Jaipur, which I agree is a agreat 2 person game. Small world is also quite fun. Sort of like Risk, but fun and multi-layered.

happymrsc · 11/12/2019 21:06

Just thought of another favourite of ours... Camel Up! Looks simple and unimpressive but every family friend we've played with has gone on to buy their own version!

BlueChampagne · 12/12/2019 13:22

Second 2 player Agricola Nan0second and also suggest Caverna (cave vs cave).

Sadbadglad · 12/12/2019 13:27

Camel Up
Carassonne
All the ticket to Rides

DevonshireDarling · 12/12/2019 13:42

I second Jaipur, also fungi which is similar game play to Jaipur.
Our current fave is shadows Amsterdam. You can play it with 2 players or more, and can play as a team. It's a great fun game.
