Not sure yet as we had planned everything for 3 but DD announced they will be coming up so now 5plus a toddler.

We usually have prawns with garlic and chilli and salad etc, but well now need a second starter. We had a capon arranged but it looks like we may have to take the turkey out of the freezer. Veg are usually red cabbage, sprouts, carrots ,peas and parsnips. Also roasties, Yorkshire puddings (for son in law) pigs in blankets, cranberry and bread sauce, stuffing.

Desert will be a choice between tarte au chocolat and Christmas pudding with brandy butter.

We usually ear mid afternoon and that's the food for the day.

@BalancingStick do you have a recipe for your mushroom en croute?

TerpsichoreanMuse · 10/12/2019 06:45

Breakfast will be bacon butties in our homemade mushroom bread, or croissants.

UndertheCedartree · 10/12/2019 17:56

We eat at 2pm - no starter - just some crisps and nuts out to nibble on. We will be eating:
Turkey crown/nut roast
Stuffing balls
Roast potatoes and parsnips
Cauliflower cheese
Mashed swede
Brussel sprouts
Peas and carrots
Mint sauce, cranberry sauce and gravy

We take a break before we have our pudding:
Christmas pudding or chocolate pudding with Brandy butter and double cream

nickievans1987 · 13/12/2019 15:48

We're having canapes rather than starters so less time at the table for DSs (4 and 8 months). So ours is:

Smoked salmon & cream cheese blinis
Prawn Marie Rose blinis
Garlic mushroom & caramelised onion tartlets
Goats cheese, honey & thyme tartlets

Turkey with stuffing
Glazed ham
Chipolatas (DS1 prefers them to pigs in blankets)
Mushroom, chestnut & tarragon pastry things/Cheesy nut roast depending which MIL prefers
Roast potatoes
Roasted carrots & parsnips
Broccoli and cauliflower cheese
Brussels with garlic & sage
Broad beans & Peas
Red cabbage
Yorkshire puddings
Gravy

Mum is providing the desserts - I think she said some kind of black forest thing from M&S and a raspberry and pistachio meringue

Riddleofthesands · 13/12/2019 16:11

No starter. Goose with apricot stuffing, red cabbage, brussel sprouts with pancetta and garlic, roast potatoes/parsnips/carrots, Swiss chard, gravy, Yorkshire puddings.

Ham and turkey sandwiches much later

Suzie0003 · 14/12/2019 09:58

Roast chicken, gammon, chipolatas, pigs in blankets, roasties, stuffing, bread sauce, gravy, green beans, carrots. Chocolate cake for dessert, no starter.

evilharpyinapeartree · 14/12/2019 18:20

No starter as we'll have been picking all morning.

Probably a turkey crown but have been thinking I might do a ham instead with some sort of festive glaze
Roast potatoes in duck fat (prefer the taste to goose fat)
Red cabbage
Honey and mustard roasted parsnips and carrots
Gravy
Cranberry sauce regardless of whether there's a turkey or not
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing, something involving sausage meat and chestnuts
Pickled silverskin onions

Dessert will be gingerbread trifle although I also have a Christmas pudding for another time, husband doesn't like it

Pomegranatepompom · 14/12/2019 22:14

In the morning we'll eat fruit and chocolate. Possibly some stollen.

Lunch:
Turkey crown
Pigs in blanket
Roast pots
Carrots
cauli cheese
Broccoli
Yorkshires
Gravy

Dessert will be xmas pud and cream and something chocolatey.

Bicnod · 14/12/2019 22:46

Turkey
Pigs in blankets
Roast spuds
Roast parsnips
Cauliflower cheese
Red cabbage
Broccoli
Carrots
Peas
Sprouts pan fried with shallots, garlic and chestnuts
Yorkshire puds
Stuffing
Gravy
Bread sauce
Cranberry sauce

Bloody hell that's a lot of food...

Christmas pudding with brandy sauce or chocolate log/trifle/ice cream for afterwards.

Got 12 coming so the kitchen will look like armageddon.

Notyetthere · 14/12/2019 23:24

No starters here either.

Main - We are having goose (with port gravy), roast potatoes, pigs, sprouts with pancetta, yorkshire puds, roast honey carrots and peas. MIL might bring Turkey and ham but if not, we have enough protein.

Dessert - we are having Iceland's 5 gold rings and melt in the middle pudding. I will also make a jamie oliver bread and butter pudding using the panetonne DH bought. We might keep it and have on boxing day instead.

Equimum · 15/12/2019 08:56

Starter - baked Camembert
Main - mushroom, Stilton & chestnut Wellington/ Quorn roast, veggies sausages, roast potatoes, roasted parsnips & rainbow carrots, cauliflower cheese, braised red cabbage, bread sauce, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy.

Dessert - cheescake

Ninkanink · 15/12/2019 18:23

It’s just me and my OH on the day itself so we’re keeping it very chilled with surf’n’turf - Sirloin steak with jumbo king prawns in a garlic butter sauce, with duchess potatoes and some kind of greens but we haven’t decided specifics yet. Pudding will be a hot buttered rum bombe.

We’ll have our main feast with my daughters sometime between Christmas and NY: Goose stuffed with apple, prunes and thyme. Roast potatoes, roast carrots and parsnips, braised red cabbage, Brussels sprouts with pancetta and chestnuts. Pudding will be a Mont Blanc. Cheeses and port to follow in the evening.

LadySpratt · 15/12/2019 20:25

Breakfast:
Christmas Bircher muesli - with spices, clementines and nuts.

Lunch:

  • Bubbly and some very light canapés (or DS will scoff the lot and not have room for mains)
  • Porchetta
Pigs in blankets (yes, it’s pork, but how can you not have them on Christmas Day?) Roast potatoes and parsnips Brussels sprouts with chestnuts Some other greenery for DS who is a sprout hater
  • Baked Alaska! Never made it before, but have set aside next weekend to make the orange and vanilla & cardamom ice creams as well as the slightly boozy chocolate sponge. Fingers crossed it works out.

Full-on turkey and trimmings happening elsewhere at a belated family Christmas do. Can’t really do turkey twice in four days.
