Supper/Dinner whatever you call it!! I want to start a tradition where we have the same thing for our Christmas Eve Meal each year and get the kids all excited for going to bed and all that!! So what sort of thing do you all have?!!

We always have a Chinese takeaway. My sisters will often make picnics with sandwiches, fruit, veg sticks, dips, crisps, cheese, crackers, yogurt and a hot chocolate with all the toppings (which is nicer than a takeaway IMO but I cba to make all that just for me). I think once/if I have kids I'll likely do the same but for now, chicken chow mein, sweet and sour chicken balls, king prawn egg foo young, fried rice, chicken and mushroom and crab and sweetcorn soup. (My sister who doesn't have kids and a few childless cousins come round we order lots and eat family style).

Fish pie, with cod, smoked haddock and prawns, white sauce with parsley, cheese, and a slurp of white wine.

Loads of mash on top, with more grated cheese.

Or else the big piece of gammon I always cook on Christmas Eve - glazed with a mix of marmalade, brown sugar, mustard and allspice - smells so lovely and Christmassy while cooking.

Would just have that with jacket or little new potatoes, and a homemade coleslaw thing of cabbage, carrot, onion, apple and celery.

Chinese takeaway

wanderwonderwanderwonder · 06/12/2019 11:33

chippy!

Whattodoabout · 06/12/2019 13:45

Always do a buffet. Crack out the cheeseboard with crackers, quiche, mozzarella sticks, homemade brownies, dips etc. Lots of cheese basically Grin.

Fish and chips with peas or baked beans followed by warm mince pies and cream/ice cream. We have tea at about 5, the rotary club sleigh goes past the end of our road at about 6, so we go out to see that then a little walk around the local streets to see how people have decorated their houses and then home for hot chocolate (usually have a baileys in mine)

@Kannet. You are a GENIUS!!

Foxton20 · 06/12/2019 16:29

We go for dinner at pizza express

Parsley65 · 06/12/2019 16:34

We always have a Chinese takeaway and a family film.

JenniferM1989 · 06/12/2019 17:12

Take away or party food 🙂. By party food I mean those mini selection of things you get in asda and stuff. Although iceland do excellent party food I've heard, might give them a go this year

Rudolphsjinglebells · 06/12/2019 17:17

My parents always did roast pork dinner on Christmas eve so I'm sticking with that. Lucky my ds loves pork.

BaubleTheLumpOfCoal · 06/12/2019 17:28

Party food table.

From the top of my head, in my freezer there are;
Cocktail sausage rolls, chicken nuggets, Indian and Chinese platters, mini toads in the hole, pigs in blankets, mac and cheese bites...
There's loads more, that's just what I bought today Xmas Blush

But we're hosting Christmas Eve and there's going to be much alcohol - so plenty of food is needed to soak it up!

We're having beef eye fillet with a red wine jus, potato gratin, green beans, baby carrots and asparagus, followed by a trio of desserts - chocolate mousse, Mini lemon meringue pie, and cream brulee.

guffaux · 06/12/2019 21:17

seafood platter (M&S this year) with the addition of a dozen oysters each, some good sourdough (local-ish artisan baker supplies this) and a bottle or two of extra dry prosecco

we'll use the prawns off the platter to make dm's christmas day prawn cocktail starter- bless her, its what she enjoys!

user1487194234 · 06/12/2019 22:26

Home made fish pie

Kielyo123 · 06/12/2019 22:33

I always cook a ham (in coke - nigella) the night before. I work xmas eve so it's quick for when I get home. we have with chips, warm bread, salad or eggs etc. The rest of the ham is eaten xmas day then

cookiemonster5 · 06/12/2019 22:35

Chinese here too. Went out one year to a buffet but now just order in. I have too much to do with making the pudding for Xmas day and baking Santa's cookies to be bothered getting dressed up and going out.

APurpleSquirrel · 06/12/2019 22:36

We always go out for a meal on Christmas Eve - atm with small children we eat out at lunchtime & then have snacks etc with a film in the afternoon & hot chocolate too.

dutchmaster · 06/12/2019 22:36

Chinese has become a tradition for us now.

Takeaway every Christmas Eve as MIL always cooks the turkey the night before and we spend Christmas Eve evening at hers and then go there again for Christmas dinner the day after.

wlv12 · 06/12/2019 22:47

ivykaty44 · 06/12/2019 22:48
