I usually make my own from a GH recipe . Even at this late stage it would be mature enough as it’s a boiled fruit recipe ( using liqueur or tea .
We prefer royal icing as opposed to fondant.
Feeling really lazy this year ! Can anyone recommend a really good moist Christmas cake I can just buy and decorate myself ?

I've just made Delia Smith's creole Christmas cake. Worked out its cost me nearly £30! Shock

Definitely buy one!

@thenightsky
My experience of Delia and Christmas cake was ruined years ago due to a misprint in her first book - sad cake in the middle after hours cooking at the wrong temperature .

Your creole cake sound yummy . But I really want to buy one and need recommendations from other lazy cooks this year .

The waitrose make your own cake kit makes an amazing cake. Usually about a tenner. You need to buy eggs and butter. All the rest is in the kit. Highly recommended

I usually make a cake, a huge square one, and then DH and I eat the whole thing so in a bid to curb the festive weight gain I bought a smaller one this year. We have eaten it already so glad it was only a small one. It was from Aldi and v good.

I buy one from Aldi, and the kids help me to decorate it with marzipan, royal icing and playmobil animals out of an advent calendar from years ago.

The creole cake cost that much as Delia assumes you'd have all that alcohol in the house to begin with. I haven't made it because I don't have angostura bitters and have no reason to use it ever.

Thanks for all your ideas !
