Perfume recommendations for a 16/17 yr old that isn’t overtly ‘sexy’?

Snooks1971 · 04/12/2019 19:50

My niece would like some perfume for Christmas and I have no idea! A bit of background; she is 16 and 17 next year but has some SEN and is socially more like 13 ish. Hence I don’t want to necessarily go down the Beyoncé/J-Lo route but need something light and glam looking (impressive bottle) that she will wow at.
Oh and budget is 20-25! Any ideas please?

My DD was 15 last Christmas and wanted L'orangerie. She had a free sample so knew she liked it.
If you're not sure then explore the cheaper offerings which are lovely and offer variety and are more floral or fun than sexy.

Anais anais ? I’ve been wearing it since I as that age . It’s light floral and fresh

Here's the article- How to buy fragrance for teenagers.

It covers girls and boys. My DS is 13 and they all wear Davidoff Cool Water which is an excellent fresh marine scent.

Zara Gold is lovely and liked by my DDs.

MissBattleaxe · 05/12/2019 08:25

@hellsbells99 I definitely want to try more Zara after trying the new Emotions range!

hellsbells99 · 05/12/2019 11:21

@MissBattleaxe - the beauty of the Zara gold one is that it is only £12.99 👍😄
But yes, I also want to go and sample the new ones - much cheaper than Jo Malone

Spied · 05/12/2019 11:28

I'd look at the lipsy collection in Next.

PenelopeFlintstone · 05/12/2019 11:28

My 18 yo DD is into CK and Tommy Hilfiger
What’s TommyGirl like? Do you know? Smile I was just thinking of that for my 15 year old.

MissBattleaxe · 05/12/2019 11:34

Tommy Girl will be an excellent choice. It's fresh and light with no sexiness. Plus Hilfiger is a cool brand right now with The Youth!

Cocolapew · 05/12/2019 11:35

Tommy Girl is very nice, Hilfiger definitely seems to be the brand of the moment with her and her friends.

MissBattleaxe · 05/12/2019 11:40

@hellsbells99 I have never been in a branch of Zara, but my head had well and truly been turned. I will definitely be catching the train to my nearest branch (Cardiff). With a credit card and a big shopping bag.

PenelopeFlintstone · 05/12/2019 13:01

Thanks MissBattleaxe and Cocolapew - I’ll get that. Hope I didn’t hijack, OP? Maybe Tommy Girl will suit you too?
Is Tommy (for boys) equally nice?

Snooks1971 · 06/12/2019 22:14

Oh my word, I had to write down (old school on a piece of paper) every poster’s recommendations so I could check them out Grin
Sorry I’m not name checking everyone but you’ve opened up my world!
@MissBattleaxe I have ordered The Perfume Society Discovery box Men for DH and cheers for the heads up
In the end I have bought the Versace trio taster box £15 from Superdrug, plus the Anna Sui £7 Miniatures set purely for the beautiful bottle. Hope they go down well!

I saw that Anna Sui mini for £7. It's a brilliant stocking filler and smells lovely it's a fruity floral, not sexy, just really pretty.

Snooks1971 · 06/12/2019 23:50

@MissBattleaxe I bought 2 of the Anna Sui sets - one for DD too.

Me and my daughter both wear Daisy. She's 16 but first got it a few years ago. She also likes body sprays like Victoria's Secret

What entertains me about these threads is that some posters don’t even bother to read the OP.

OP says she wants to buy something light. Somebody suggests Thierry Mugler Angel, which can knock you out at 20 metres and is the opposite of light.

OP gives a budget of £25. Somebody suggests Diorissimo and Antonia’s Flowers. Good luck buying either of those for less than £50, even in small bottles!

Elieza · 07/12/2019 09:49

Perfumes are indeed far too expensive. I’ve been on the Milton Lloyd copy fragrances for ages. There’s a list of what brands they smell like on the internet. Way better value, they last just as long. Really good copies.

insufferablefury · 07/12/2019 17:03

@Iamthewombat, what can I say, I like classic, different scent. And yes, I think you can find most of fragrances cheaper than £50 if you look.
Another classic scent I do love and recommend is Laura Ashley NO1, quite similar to Diorissimo in the freshness. I like Anais Anais too, as PP said. They are the scent for teens, maybe early 20s. I can't wear them anymore, so I do reminisce.

MissBattleaxe · 07/12/2019 17:29

Wombat's right. You wouldn't get Antonia's Flowers or Diorissimo for under £50 but that's not to say classic scents can't be had at bargain prices. I also don't think age applies to perfume. For Christmas I've asked for First by Van Cleef and Arpels and Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy and I'm 49. I'm a big believer in wear what you like and like what you wear.

insufferablefury · 07/12/2019 17:57

I agree, you can wear whatever you like. But no, I won't wear anything that have a name like Britney Spears. That calls for teens. Thing is I do like simple scent. Maybe I am missing out, but it won't appeal to me at all.

Angelinthenightx · 07/12/2019 20:21

Anna sui - dreams on offer at superdrug for £20. Its a light fresh smell.
