What would you choose? We have 8 people eating. Do I need something else, as plan to do all the sides as well?

We always do a boiled gammon as well, but as a 'side' not as a turkey alternative. (Though I guess it could be). You certainly don't need a second roast.

CupCupGoose · 03/12/2019 13:56

We are having beef and turkey.

AdaColeman · 03/12/2019 13:57

With only eight to feed, a turkey should be enough, you shouldn't need a second meat.

Blowandgo · 03/12/2019 13:59

Turkey and ham as standard where I am (Ireland). We have sometimes had turkey and beef but always go back to the ham. You need a second meat to make it special!!!

spookyaction · 03/12/2019 14:03

Nigella coke ham

OverthinkingThis · 03/12/2019 14:04

I don't think you need another meat, especially for 8 people. But if I had to pick one, it would be ham.

Bombaybunty · 03/12/2019 14:04

I'm doing a piece of pork. I don't like hot ham, FIL doesn't like turkey and MIL only eats beef if it's been cremated.

So pork seemed like the best option!

In Ireland, it's pretty much illegal to serve turkey without ham. It's boiled and generally glazed and finished off in the oven.

RainbowMum11 · 03/12/2019 14:14

I'd just go for loads of pigs in blankets & sides - in fact, there are 7 of us and that's exactly what I'm doing!!!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 03/12/2019 14:19

I'm in Ireland as well, and would never consider serving christmas turkey without ham!

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 03/12/2019 14:20

Rib of beef! You won't necessarily need it on the day, but it's great to have cold for the next few days too. It's nice for people to have a choice.
And the ham, there HAS to be ham.

Ninkanink · 03/12/2019 15:33

We always do a glazed ham to go with the main roast.

20viona · 03/12/2019 15:36

I'm doing beef and turkey. we like the variation and plus tons for leftovers!

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/12/2019 15:40

Definitely glazed ham.

Stumpedasatree · 03/12/2019 15:47

Ok thanks! Is the glazed ham usually served hot with it, or cold?

whyamidoingthis · 03/12/2019 15:51

Hot.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 03/12/2019 15:52

We have the cocktail sausages with bacon and stuffing and the bacon I cover the turkey with, that’s a lot of pork.

newdeer · 03/12/2019 15:57

Hoards of pigs in blankets and pork stuffing balls.

QuestionableMouse · 03/12/2019 15:58

We do glazed ham but serve it cold. It goes really nicely with the turkey.

JurassicShay · 03/12/2019 16:00

Pigs in blankets! They accompany any kind of roast I do

cccameron · 03/12/2019 21:50

Always serve gammon as well (and lots of pigs and blankets of course)
