Frozen turkey crowns.

I've only ever had fresh turkey before, and to be honest I'm not a huge fan of it anyway and resent spending a small fortune on meat that I don't like. DH is a big turkey lover, so to save both his happiness and my purse, I'm considering buying a frozen turkey crown this year. Are they any good? Or will it go down in history as the worst Christmas dinner ever.

Think this is a good compromise to be honest. There's nothing wrong with frozen turkey, you defrost it over the days before you cook it anyway so it's not like microwaving a frozen ready meal, it's still proper meat.

I had a Bernard Matthews one the other day, was no different to when we’ve had a fresh one. Just obvs remember to get it out in good time so it’s fully defrosted!

I think it all tastes the same.

We always have chicken as none of us esp likes turkey. I wouldn't have a crown as the best bits are legs and wings and their presence also keeps the meat from being dry

I thought about chicken but I'm feeding 10 so it'd have to be a pretty big chicken!

We got the aldi one last year and it was lovely. Going to buy it again this year

Would a crown be enough for 10? Maybe you’ll need a whole bird but could still get a frozen one.

EvaHarknessRose · 03/12/2019 19:13

They're also great because you can buy them or take them out of the freezer when you do your big pre Christmas shop and leave them out to defrost which is perfect because you need the space for everything else.

Some of the 10 are children and I don't mind not having any leftovers... so hopefully it'll be big enough?
