NYE/NYD - what things do you always do?

It's one of my dc's birthday!
We go to the local Chinese buffet as a big family. Home for a film and cake!! Younger dc usually in bed before 12, older ones stay up - we usually half asleep by then, mutter Happy New Year and fall into bed!!
Well past celebrations @48!!

Go to bed! I’m not a fan obviously Grin

Gogreen · 02/12/2019 19:56

We just go to bed, don’t really celebrate it
I suppose

BlueSkyAtChristmas · 02/12/2019 19:58

Get drunk! Wink

BlueSkyAtChristmas · 02/12/2019 20:00

Not this year though. I’ll probably be asleep (have a baby). So I need new NYE traditions which probably don’t include alcohol Shock

Fizz during the evening, Hootenanny and then watching the fireworks from the comfort of my lounge on a hill overlooking the 7 hills of Sheffield.
Midnight is magic. Then watch a few more fireworks on telly and go to bed.

My mum and dad usually have a big party. My mums birthday is New Year's Day so we give her all her presents at midnight.

She's away this year so think we will be at my sisters.

It's a big family occasion for us.

Usually we stay up for The Bells .

Buffet meal.(crisps, rolls, salad, quiche )

Usually work on NYE .

We get takeaway pizza and some sparklers for the children. We watch the fireworks on tv.

Pocketrocket2007 · 04/12/2019 23:25

Couple of years ago I started my own tradition. At beginning of the year I start a memory jar. Everytime something momentous happens or something makes me really happy I write it on a little note & date it. Then on NYE or New Years day I have a couple of glasses of fizz & read through them all. It reminds me of all the good stuff that's happened throughout the past year Smile

We go to a big gathering at a very rural farm, get very drunk while a bunch of kids run around in a feral pack. We have a rota of which parent gets up in the morning, so I only have to do it every few years.

ExpletiveFairylighted · 05/12/2019 13:41

Watch films on TV because there's never anything else worth watching, play monopoly, eat crisps and nibbles, go to bed about ten past 12.

TeenPlusTwenties · 05/12/2019 14:07

go to bed.

caranx · 05/12/2019 14:19

Every NYE DH and I re-watch Pride and Prejudice (the 1995 BBC mini-series version of course)

We fast-foward past the cringy Mr Collins/Wickham scenes so its about 3 1/2 hours long rather than the full 5 1/2 hours Grin

With wine and nibbles.

Usually fall asleep before 12.
