I always have a real one and I’m itching to get it but it’ll be dead by Xmas won’t it?
I normally leave til mid December but for some reason this year I’m excited for it to be up! I’ve seen lots of people carrying their real trees out of shops and wondering how they make them last....

I bought one last night. It’s currently in our lean to - going to chop the bottom off and leave it in water for the week then will put it up at the weekend.

Stompythedinosaur · 01/12/2019 13:42

We got ours yesterday. It's a Nordman Fir, I find they last pretty well as long as they have plenty of water. Putting it up today.

BadMoon · 01/12/2019 14:00

Probably around 14th December.

starrynight19 · 01/12/2019 14:01

Next weekend

MarshaBradyo · 01/12/2019 14:02

Weekend of 14th

Spacerader · 01/12/2019 14:02

I always get a real tree and it goes up the first weekend of December. Which is today.

countdowntochristmas · 01/12/2019 14:05

Next week , thinking of getting a potted one so it will last longer .

stridesy · 01/12/2019 14:06

Ours went up yesterday. Always seems to last ok.

Leflic · 01/12/2019 14:08

Cut the bottom few inches of the trunk and let in soak up a bucket full of water outside ( a few days good, a week better). They seal themselves up once cut so they will need a good drink before coming into the warm.
I ‘m getting mine tomorrow with a view to putting it up next weekend. We’ll only get two weekend out of it anyway. Busy the weekend after that and away for a week once the school break up.

Mominatrix · 01/12/2019 14:09

Probably weekend of the 14th

Thehollyandtheirony · 01/12/2019 14:12

Next weekend.

TheBlueStocking · 01/12/2019 14:13

Yesterday

holly40 · 01/12/2019 14:15

On the 14th or 15th probably. Don't want it up for too long! After a couple of weeks inside they tend to droop and look a bit sad.

Pipandmum · 01/12/2019 14:20

In about five minutes! We always do it first weekend and as we are going abroad in a couple weeks more time to enjoy it. But it takes a few days to decorate and I need my son back from work to help put it up (get an 8-9' tree). Plus I haven't tested any of the lights yet....

RachelEllenR · 01/12/2019 14:20

We got ours last weekend as we're hosting a Christmas event. We cut the bottom off and have a stand where we can leave it water. We normally get it the first weekend in December and lasts until new year ok with regular watering.

everythingisginandroses · 01/12/2019 15:02

Delivery on 16th this year as we are away on weekend of 14th. Saw a couple of cm off the bottom, top up water in stand regularly and it'll last fine until 12th night Star

everythingisginandroses · 01/12/2019 15:05

We always get a Nordman and could probably get away with longer, but I like to play it safe.

OrangeSamphire · 01/12/2019 15:11

We just chose and tagged ours at the farm today and will collect it on 13th Dec after school.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/12/2019 17:10

Ours went up today. I normally wait until the middle of December but we're just too busy. Today is pretty much our last chance until Christmas Eve!

AuntieMarys · 01/12/2019 17:13

Next Sunday. We got a beautiful one last year so returning to the same place. Never dropped at all

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/12/2019 17:16

Small potted one outside front door today.

Bigger one for indoors, probably on the 5th, since have guests coming on the 6th. Ours goes in a big bucket of wet gravel, topped up daily, after dh has sawn a slice off the bottom.
Always lasts well until 12th Night.

missyB1 · 01/12/2019 17:19

I'm a real tree novice. I'm thinking next weekend and leave in bucket of water in conservatory for a couple of days before putting up. I have heard you need to strip back a few centimeters of the bark at the bottom. I'm going to buy a stand and water every couple days.

PersonaNonGarter · 01/12/2019 17:20

Next weekend. I am a bit worried they will all have gone by then so maybe we’ll get it on Friday.

They need at least 2days drinking time in a bucket of water. I usually put mine up 24hrs before decorating it so the branches have time to drop and I can see the shape.

Mentounasc · 01/12/2019 19:11

We're in Germany, where real trees are absolutely standard. Our family tradition is to buy the tree on the weekend if 1st Advent (this weekend) and stand it on the back patio decorated just with outdoor lights, then bring it in and decorate on the fourth Advent Sunday, three weeks later. It stays up then until 12th night. It works well for us because we have it for ages (and get a good choice of nicely formed trees) but only in the house about a fortnight. We also get a Nordmann and put it in a stand with integral water basin.

Next weekend - cannot wait 🎄😄
