How is your Elf on a shelf arriving?

Via hot air balloon. I got one for a previous year and I like to reuse my props!

Last year I just sat her next to the chalkboard with a piece of chalk and wrote "I'm back!"

MarmaladeTeepee · 30/11/2019 07:34

We're putting up the decorations today so I'll probably put him on the tree with an "I'm back!" note. Ours is a good elf so doesn't play tricks, but in a moment of madness I decided to combine the elf with an activity advent, so every day he's going to bring a note with a different thing to do that day.

Louisa111 · 30/11/2019 07:37

We put ours in a box and wrap it up and when the children aren't looking place it outside and ring the doorbell ..we always address it to them although after this year we will need a new idea as it's getting predictable x

Mama1980 · 30/11/2019 07:46

Late Grinas I can't find him. He's sent a note though advising he's been shipwrecked off South America but is on his way.....this wont be the first time...though it was a polar bear issue last year Wink

lostlalaloopsy · 30/11/2019 08:31

mama1980 🤣🤣🤣 hope you find the elf soon!!!

Ours will arrive with a North Pole breakfast - very controversial on mumsnet!! I'm going to decorate table with all our Christmas mugs, plates etc and some battery colourful lights.

Our elf will be sitting in amongst it all, he is very generous and always brings the dc advent calendars 😉

I know the Elf on the Shelf thing gets slagged quite a bit, but it really is magical for the dc. We have done it for 8 years now and my dc's still get excited for him during December. It is one of my favourite Christmas traditions and I have mumsnet to thank as I heard about it on here!!

Chilledout11 · 30/11/2019 08:40

Mine are younger but ds wanted us to buy one so that's how he arrived the other day. I had no intention of starting the whole thing yet but ds said the magic comes in him during the night. Hence snowangel trick (flour) etc. Long month of ideas to go !

An elf door has arrive on the skirting board on the landing today. DD (nearly 4) is very excited as she remembers from last year. Tomorrow the elves will appear sat beside it with a couple of little gifts (Frozen baubles)

Oysterbabe · 30/11/2019 15:15

We'll be doing this one first for my little frozen fan I think.

Ha ha this thread is hilarious! Love it!

IggyAce · 30/11/2019 15:25

Mine is going to set things up so I have to make American pancakes for breakfast.
In a few days time he is going to return after reporting to the North Pole with a broken leg (need an explanation of how it happened) so he will sit on a shelf for 2 weeks.

wendz86 · 30/11/2019 16:59

The girls have put the elf door up so will appear next to it with a little good luck gift for my eldest's ballet exam tomorrow (and a little something for youngest too)

Heismyopendoor · 30/11/2019 17:02

Ours just arrives on the couch with the advent calendars and a little note about how he’s missed them etc

Chocmallows · 30/11/2019 17:05

Probably on the tree in an obvious place. I will then feign surprise when they spot him. Later in the month I have clothes for him. He generally like windowsills and obvious places that I can quickly throw him in the morning as I forget the night before.

Barbararara · 30/11/2019 18:37

Ours will come down the chimney, but get a bit stuck until one of the dc spots him and helps him out. I was considering a trail of tiny sooty footprints for them to follow but I wasn’t gifted with the energy levels to follow through on most of my wild ideas.

pinklemonade84 · 30/11/2019 23:43

We've bought an Elf for this year and tonight I've decorated the tree so we can pretend he's done it in the night, and he's sat there with dd's Christmas bedding, a little bath bomb for tomorrow night and her calendar

Stick to our window which ive decorated with pound shop christmas window stickers.

Shoeshow · 30/11/2019 23:50

In 15 days time. He comes 10 days before Christmas (day after DS Birthday) so I’ll use one of the clever ideas I see on fb from now until then Grin

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 30/11/2019 23:50

We are starting this for the first year with dd (3).
I have written and (badly) illustrated a poem to go with hers and have left it with her advent calendar outside of of her bedroom.
The baby gate is still up so she will be able to see it but not reach it until I get to her.
Am really excited and hoping that I haven’t made a mistake by using a larger card factory elf.

JoGose · 30/11/2019 23:50

The DC got a letter from the elf tonight saying he is on his way, they still haven’t gone to sleep and are thinking of all the things the elf could be doing and when he will get here. Every little noise they’re up to ask if he’s here. I dread to think what Christmas Eve will be like.
