My seven year old who appears to be an average-good reader likes these series:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Horrible Histories
Beast Quest

And he’s just adored reading The Lion The Witch abd The Wardrobe.

How To Train Your Dragon
13 Storey Treehouse
Middle School Kid
Compton Valance
The Christmasaurus
The Bolds
Mr Gum
Flat Stanley
Anything by David Walliams

DS likes Harry Potter for me to read to him. He’s loved the Matt Haig Christmas books. He’s just starting to read longer chapter books so I’ve got him How to train your dragon and The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan this year. He loves Percy Jackson and is into Egypt so hope that will go down well.
Non fiction also goes down well.
At this age reading ability seems quite variable so it might help to have an idea where they are.

the Claude books are good for them to read to themselves (over and over again)

Captain Pug ones are similar

Any of the Tom Gates ones, will be read many, many times, well ours were anyway

Bear Grylls has some adventure type stories some for younger some for slightly older

Mine loved Toto The Ninja Cat

I would steer clear of Roald Dahl ones
