I'm doing lots of paper pompoms this year. Red, white and green of course!

Sniv · 25/11/2019 21:19

My tree is pretty big and a thing of beauty, with a collection of tins, toys and trinkets underneath, and it's about all the Christmas my very small front room can handle. The only other bits I have out are decorations for the glass panes in my front door, a paper advent calender, and a string of pegs for my cards.

Loads! Have 3 trees each year (one is over 10 foot) and have lots of decorations to go on them.

I've collected decorations over the last 20 years plus inherited from family. As well as tree decorations I have lots of lights, candles etc. Plus I've got decorations made by the children. In total theres 3 huge crates plus about 10 boxes.

Trees don't go up til Christmas Eve but the rest of the decorations gradually appear from the beginning of December.

HotSince82 · 25/11/2019 21:31

One tree; the baubles are mostly years old and at least fifty percent made by the children throughout the years so almost nothing matches although ostensibly my 'theme' is cerise, purple and gold.

A couple of gold jingle bells hung from the mantlepiece, a string of fairy lights across the mantlepiece.
Two gold tinsel trees in the hearth, a bauble wreath on the door, a traditional wreath on the vestebule door, I decorate the holly bush in the front garden with pink fairy lights.

Thats it I think.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/11/2019 07:05

Small real tree outside the front door
Sundry green garlands, inc. on the banisters
Two 'garlands' of Victorian-scrap-type Christmas robins, bought ages ago
Christmas cards blu-tacked to various vertical surfaces
Arrangement of garden greenery plus a candle, stuck into Oasis in a copper bowl on the hall table
Real wreath on front door
That's it. Always seems plenty, though.

Did have a knitted Nativity set in homemade stable, lit up with B&Q battery lights last year, but it's going to Gdcs this year, now Gds is marginally less likely to chuck/bash everything.

I’m feeling a bit better about my Christmas extravaganza now I hear I’m far from alone. I’ve enjoyed hearing about everyone’s Christmas treasures!

A garland for my fire place, wreath for front door and a nativity set.

Barbararara · 26/11/2019 22:34

Definitely too many: I’m hoping to streamline and cull this year.

I like the tree, garlands for mantle, windows and stairs, fur throws and pillar candles, and wreath for the front door.

I have far too many tree decorations but most have a memory attached.

I foolishly expressed a half-hearted admiration of a Christmas village and everyone gifted me a piece for a couple of years. The dc adore it, especially when all the moving ones are turned on and they each play a different jaunty tune. I’m hoping Santa brings them better taste one of these years.

I have far too many small standing ornaments and no available surfaces.

Maykid · 27/11/2019 07:58

Barbararara don’t get rid of the noisy village, the kids will kill you!

I'm green with envy that I don't have suit of armour to put my festive hat on. Grin

Thornhill58 · 27/11/2019 10:31

I've got a grotto over here. It's like Christmas on steroids. Sadly I'm the only one that loves it.

FenellaVelour · 27/11/2019 10:34

None. We did have some lovely ceiling decorations but our new house has such solid ceilings I can’t get them up.

I really ought to get something new. We eat Christmas dinner in the kitchen so will probably put some decorations up in there this year.

ysmaem · 27/11/2019 10:40

Too much 😂

TrickyD · 27/11/2019 16:25

apostropheuse, he has other outfits too.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 27/11/2019 16:42

A willow tree complete nativity.

I've looked at that, it's lovely. 😊

We have far too many trees. Blush Other decorations include silver stags, large wooden advent calendar, various Santa statues, candle bridges, various light up houses/villages. I haven't any of it down from the loft yet but that's the things I can remember. Hopefully everything will go up at the weekend. 🎄

CrowleysBentley · 27/11/2019 17:04

I only decorate the sitting room. We have silver, white, clear and ice blue decorations that I have been collecting over a few years. It goes nicely in the duck egg sitting room, and looks lovely and frosty and festive. Lots of beaded things on the tree that reflect the light nicely.

I have 3 Mercury glass Christmas trees ranging in size from about 45cm tall down to around 20cm. That sit on top of the sideboard with little led wire lights around and between them. Next to those I put a mirror glass tray with mercury glass votive holders and I put scented tealights in them.
A silver white and blue star shaped bauble wreath goes on the wall above the TV, a little mirrored sign that says "Let it snow" next to the mirror, beaded crystal look garlands around the tops of the bookshelves. Lots of candles dotted around.

This year I have a dozen or so paper snowflake/fan things to hang from the ceiling, a tall nutcracker soldier in blue and silver (about 45cm-ish) and I was thinking about maybe putting up a few crepe paper streamers too. I'll see how it looks when it's done.

RuthW · 27/11/2019 18:06

Two large crates doesn't sound very much. I have about 7 or 8 but do every room in the house.

riotlady · 27/11/2019 19:09

Quite a lot, including a polar bear cookie jar and bunting my friend made me.

My mum has absolutely loads, she’s bought one or two a year since I was born and every year putting them all out is a big family affair. We all have our favourites (mine is the Russian dolls, my sisters is a big snowman she used to pretend was her brother when she was little) and fight for the best spots for them.

riotlady · 27/11/2019 19:11

We also have a nativity that’s meant to have the angel hanging gloriously above the stable but she’s a bit broken so we just have to lie her in the roof like she’s having a rest xD

Zenithbear · 27/11/2019 19:16

Two trees one real for living room, one fake for kitchen/diner.
Outdoor lights and two small trees with just lights either side of the front door.
Wreath
Holly and mistletoe
Christmassy Yankee candles

UndertheCedartree · 27/11/2019 21:43

I decorate my mantle piece with a poinsietta, apples with cloves and cinnamon and red candles. Then I dip into the children's 'tree block' basket where they have pine cones and nuts that I borrow and sometimes even some wooden animals like the squirrel, hedgehog and deer! I also have a nativity carved out of a single piece of wood and you push the bits in and out to give the effect desired. I have things like a snow globe, lantern, little silver bauble tree that go out too and tinsle goes over the picture frames. The tree is decorated in baubles of the decided colour scheme but then all the sentimental decorations that I've been given or I've given the children go on there too. I'm not precious about it - I let the children decorate it!

SlatternIsTrying · 27/11/2019 22:58

This thread has reminded me that I have to bring in pine cones from the garden and chop some branches down - this year I am aiming to create a winter forest scene in the porch. It’s so cold out there half my work is done.
