Present for 9 year old girl that is not an LOL doll

Doubleraspberry · 24/11/2019 19:19

DD’s Christmas list is entirely LOL dominated, other than books. I have bought a couple of single ones for her, as she only has two, but I resent those and refuse to spend bigger money on anything LOL related! I think it’s appalling tat and dreadful for the environment.

So Grinch moment aside, what can I get her instead? Looking to spend £50-100 on a single item as a big present. She already has some books, clothes and other bits and pieces. Her siblings are younger and each have a ‘main toy’.

could you get a few LOL colouring books and colouring pencils, so not plastic tat but still sticking to the 'theme'. does she have a bike/scooter? would she like a pair of heelys maybe? tickets to see matilda the musical?

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 24/11/2019 19:39

amazon fire tablet if you don't mind getting tech? bluetooth speaker?
small set of watercolours, brushes and paper?
theatre tickets/cinema voucher?

avocadoze · 24/11/2019 19:43

Electronics set? A game from the Happy Puzzle Company? Lego? A nerf gun? A cookery book?

RJnomore1 · 24/11/2019 19:48

Look honestly if it’s lol dolls she wants why waste your money and disappoint her with something she’s not going to be keen on? Get her what she’s asking for. It’ll be what all her friends are into and that’s worth more than any worthy adult stance, trust me.

Don’t buy her a fucking cookery book instead whatever you do. Get her one for her stocking as an extra.

simplekindoflife · 24/11/2019 19:48

If your dd loves LOL Dolls, then why wouldn't you just get her LOL Dolls?! Confused Children like what they like, it seems odd to deliberately avoid something your dd loves just because you don't like them...

Rather than the dolls (which is the main attraction really) could you get her some lol themed toys? LOL puzzles, clothes, pyjamas, bed covers, games, etc? The entertainer has loads.

But I wouldn't that much money on some suggestions from a bunch a strangers on MN - ask your dd what she wants.

What about a theatre trip?
Depending where you live, a trip to London?
A bedroom makeover paint etc?

Luxplus · 24/11/2019 20:13

Why in the world use money on something she does not want? That seems like a more waste to me Hmm

Doubleraspberry · 24/11/2019 20:16

Thanks, all. As I said, I have got her two LOL individual dolls. And I also have an LOL secret diary set now I remember. I really don’t want to get anything large scale because they are poor quality, bad value, the tiny bits will be lost by the end of Christmas Day and I really object to the level of plastic waste. She really isn’t actually that bothered by them (if I really thought she’d been heartbroken not to get them, I would think hard about it) but keeps just saying it’s what she wants because her best friend loves them. It’s what she does - and I know she won’t be upset if she gets something else as long as it’s good! Replace LOL dolls with other crazes and we’ve been here before.

But there are some good ideas here, thank you. Heelies would be good although she has giant adult size feet so I need to check you can get them in her size. I wonder if a trip to London would be the dream? She and I could go together. She would really love an electronics set too. She’s already got a Fire and she’s seen Matilda (but did love it so that would have been totally right for her!)

Plastic isn’t automatically waste. If it’s something she wants, and will play with for a long time, what’s being wasted? I’d just get her what she’s asked for.

Doubleraspberry · 24/11/2019 20:18

I posted to get ideas of what else 9 year olds are asking for. She really won’t be disappointed with an alternative, I promise you all.

OP posts:
Doubleraspberry · 24/11/2019 20:19

Because she won’t play with it for a long time. She loses tiny pieces instantly and she mostly says she wants it because of her best friend. She has two already and forgot she had them till recently.

My girl (same age) has asked for a new holdall for sleepovers (still using a Trunki atm). I'm going to put some new clothes in there (some branded sportswear) along with some of her favourite chocolate like Reeses etc.

She also wants some new books - we always get Guiness World Records.

WreckTangled · 24/11/2019 20:27

Dd is 9 and I've got her:

Tickets for the strictly tour
Converse
Dock & Bay hair wrap
T shirt, jumper and fleece
Light box
Stationery
Impulse body spray set
Hair chalks
Bath bombs
Plus other little bits for her stocking

Doubleraspberry · 24/11/2019 20:28

A decent overnight bag is a great idea, thanks!

I’ve done book sets from the Book People which are always really cheap. So I have books covered. Plus an H&M spree for clothes with unicorns on. And some art supplies.

Tickets for the Strictly tour is genius. She’s an addict. Do you know if Saffron and AJ are dancing by any chance?

WreckTangled · 24/11/2019 20:31

Yes they are Smile

Doubleraspberry · 24/11/2019 20:33

What will it be like to be in the same room as his ego I wonder?!

DD (9) loves clothes so have got her a few tops/dresses /hoodies she has picked out. She has also asked for airpods, a fitbit, books, trainers. She also likes lol so have got her the fashion show on the go which is also a storage case for them and an lol bubbly surprise. Main present will probably be a karaoke machine.

Doubleraspberry · 24/11/2019 20:55

DD loves my Fitbit and I was going to get her a kids’ version but her godfather has told me he’s getting her a watch, so that won’t work unfortunately.

We were tempted by an iPod but they basically are iPhones now and we really don’t want her to have something like that till she’s a bit older (and they are a bit more than we want to spend). Maybe for her next birthday. If there’s something we could get Audible on to that didn’t also have gaming on it, that would be brilliant.

cccameron · 24/11/2019 21:00

You can get audible on Alexa, would that work? Echo show is black Friday £49 at the moment.

Topbird29 · 24/11/2019 21:06

How about a digital camera or similar?

FixItUpChappie · 24/11/2019 21:07

My 9yr old is getting a Gravitrax marble run with some accessories as his main gift.

Dollymixture22 · 24/11/2019 21:11

Is she into Harry Potter - the lego is amazing

DurtySarf · 24/11/2019 21:11

Lego Friends or Harry Potter or Elves ranges?

Doubleraspberry · 24/11/2019 21:56

She loves Harry Potter but Lego has the same small bits problem unfortunately.

I had wondered about Alexa but we’ve got one in our kitchen already. I guess if we put them on two different accounts they could play different things?
