My house is a mess. It looks tidy when you walk in but when you look behind the scenes, it's really a mess. I'm pregnant and suffering from HG so only been managing the essentials. Feeling a lot better now though. With a month until a Christmas eve, I've written a list of all the jobs that need doing and have decided to pick one thing every day to do. This is this week's list...

Today clean out slow cooker (it accidentally got put away with pork fat in it!)

Monday clean living room window inside and out including windowsil

Tuesday pull out kitchen table, dog cage and bin and clean behind

Wednesday clean kitchen windows inside and out including windowsils

Thursday pull out everything in lower Kitchen cupboards, clean and organise

Friday as above but top cupboards

Saturday oven

Sunday put the Christmas decorations up

Anyone want to join me? I work part time Mon-Fri so I've tried to pick things with aren't too time consuming.

Yes I’m in. I need to get this house Christmas decoration ready by this time next week!!
I will write my list and add it here this afternoon!

BlueEyedFloozy · 24/11/2019 12:41

I'll join you - first thing I need to do is clearlout. 2 adults a teen and a 6yo in a 2 bedroom house with very little storage = a whole lot of crap and no where to put it...

I'm also working 6 days a week until Christmas so I have 0 energy BUT having done pregnancy and HG you have totally encouraged me - if you can do it, so can i!

I feel for you, it's bloody awful. Well done for finding the motivation to get stuff sorted!!

Anyway - back to the job in hand...

Plans for the week:
Sunday - Sort out charity/skip toys
Monday - Sort out charity/skip clothes
Tuesday - Clearout/sort coffee table drawers
Wednesday - Tidy under beds, wash charity stuff
Thursday - Skip run (DH)
Friday - General tidy everywhere
Saturday - Take stuff to charity shop (DH)

I'm in! Working on a list. Basically.... clean everything!

MrsCrimbo74 · 25/11/2019 12:02

Have just shared this on another chat but for anyone cleaning their houses in preparation for visitors, I saw a tip this morning and thought I’d give it a try, if you have limescale around your taps, bathroom or kitchen, just rub it with a wet 2p coin, it takes a minute but it actually works! I had to share it as I was so excited it actually works!

livingthegoodlife · 25/11/2019 12:25

I need to do this. Also I'm away returning on Christmas Eve late so need to be super prepared with food. I need a mega list!

Orangesanddachshunds · 25/11/2019 12:34

I need to do this too! We're in the process of moving (no fixed date yet) so I'm feeling 'stuck' because I can't pack yet but I really need to declutter... but seems pointless yet if I need to pack... aaaaah!

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 25/11/2019 12:54

Last year was the first year I was hosting so needed to do a big clean. It sounds a bit sad, but I made myself a cleaning advent calendar. I had one job a day written on paper and one treat. I put the jobs and treat in each pocket, then did each job and got a little treat for it! Will be doing the same this year!

PhantomErik · 25/11/2019 12:59

I'm in!

Have cleared & tidied the bookcase in the front room as the tree goes slightly in front of it & last year it just looked messy.

Still need to do:

Sort the dvd rack that has accumulated various other things!

Clear the kitchen windowsill & clean the window.

Clean behind the table & huge plant pot!

Clear the stairs

Help dc make space for their little christmas trees in their bedrooms.

There's probably loads more to do but these would make a big difference.

WindFlower92 · 25/11/2019 13:10

First year hosting here! We moved in a couple of months ago so it's not too bad, but we've used the dining room as 'storage', so really need to clear that out in the next two weeks!

Howmanysleepsnow · 25/11/2019 13:15

Can I join? Can’t start until Wednesday as I’m not home but:
Wednesday- sort my clothes. Clean/ sort bathrooms. Make sure packing boxes are away. Tip run
Thursday - sort out kids clothes/ wardrobes. Tidy/ sort lounge and playroom.
Friday- sort hall table. Deep clean downstairs. Trees delivered.
Saturday- deep clean upstairs
Sunday- trees up! Hoover and polish afterwards.

How's everyone getting on? I'm doing okay so far although I didn't pull out the table on Tuesday but did clean all the dogs bedding in the cage and the bin. I'm really tired tonight and my legs and feet are aching from work, but Im determined to do today's job before bed. My job today is the lower kitchen cupboards. I dread to think of all the junk in them!

My house is a cluttered bomb site. I have a 5yr old in school and an almost 2yr old. I work long days three days a week. Struggle to find time to do anything as always tired and the toddler doesn’t help!!

However, I’ve been on annual leave this week and I’ve decluttered and tidied the kitchen including toys and paperwork. Would like to empty food cupboards out as they are a mess.
Today I decluttered living room, packed away baby toys and filed paperwork. In here I would like to sort out the dvd cupboard and toy chest still.

Next big thing is give the bathroom and good scrub and declutter.
Eldest DS bedroom needs sorted. Going to IKEA on Saturday and planning on getting some storage for the toys I’ve just moved upstairs.. Lego and playmobil.

It’s so therapeutic and I feel so much happier in my house.

TrickyD · 29/11/2019 07:49

The Christmas tree will be retrieved from the cellar today. Goodness know what our new cat will make of it, an adventure playground probably.
But first I will clean the windows and window seat in the bay where the tree goes, as once it is up they will be inaccessible. Except to pusscat of course.
Similar operation in the dining room next.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 29/11/2019 10:40

I’m in! 3 weeks until the end of term which is when I want it all done by. I’ve only dc5(2) at home although he’s at prime hindering age.

De cluttered the living room on Monday. Have 1 quote from carpet cleaning company already, I’ve another coming later & the 3rd next week. All can fit me in before the end of term.

Am planning on doing the kitchen next week. All the cupboards need a good clean out & organising again.

The hall need a good wipe down & the shoe box sorting as well by that’s a fairly quick job that can be done if dc5 actually naps one afternoon.

I also need to crack my Mt Vesuvius or washing.

The tree is going up on the 14th so I also need to maintain the current order I’ve created in the living room until then.

The older 4 dc (9>4) are doing their bedrooms this weekend.

SilkieAndMoonface · 29/11/2019 10:51

I'm in! The house is getting on top of me, it's small without much storage, and lots of very kind relatives will be buying MORE toys for my two children and I've got to find space.

stucknoue · 29/11/2019 11:08

I'm on the same challenge but cheated, I've hired a lady to come and deep clean before my mother arrives, all I need to do is the range (that was a lot extra) and cupboards

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 29/11/2019 12:11

You haven’t cheated stuck you’ve just been inventive with your battle plan Wink

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 29/11/2019 12:12

Oh, you’ve reminded me as well DH needs to clean the oven. It’s his job as using the chemical cleaning stuff sets my asthma off & he gets lots of satisfaction from doing it.

NoWordForFluffy · 29/11/2019 13:09

I cleaned the entire house on Sunday, including under / behind movable furniture, all woodwork, windows etc. It was tiring, but I wanted it done before the tree goes up on Sunday.

DH finished paining the dining room as well, so we're thankfully on top of it.

It's well worth doing. 😁

NoWordForFluffy · 29/11/2019 13:09

Painting. Clearly.

SunshineInMySprocket · 30/11/2019 14:24

Joining the thread as I need to get to grips with the house tomorrow before the tree goes up in the afternoon. Everywhere is clean but still clutter that needs to be put away and jobs that need doing. Not feeling great this afternoon so going to spend some time making a plan of action for tomorrow.

MercuryRising · 30/11/2019 17:08

I would love to join you! Today dp cleaned and sorted our kitchen cupboards. Jobs for this week will be: sorting through dc4's wardrobe to bag up all of the clothes he has out grown, cleaning downstairs windows, deep clean the porch, declutter my make up drawer, clean out the car and clean under the sofas. If I manage all this it will be a miracle but also a good start towards being tidy for Christmas. There are 6 of us in a 3 bed house so our main problem is too much stuff!

Drabarni · 30/11/2019 17:20

I'm in, having procrastinated for too long. Grin
Whole house to do, nothing stopping me but myself.
Can only start on monday though.

MercuryRising · 02/12/2019 02:49

So good progress made.. cleaned out under the sofas, bagged up dc4s clothes and cleaned the porch.
