Please can I have your ideas for presents for 11 year old boys. This particular boy isn't very sporty and is a bit young for his age

What does he like? Has he asked for anything? Things my non-sporty boy of a similar age has/likes/would like

Nintendo switch
Sphero
Forbidden island and labyrinth board games
Power bank for tablet/phone
He'd love some AirPods
Kindle (big reader)
Lego
Bean bag
New books
New stationery
Some clothes - a cool hoodie or t-shirt
Wallet
Phone upgrade
Cooking/baking equipment/recipe books. Stuff aimed at kids/teens.
Echo dot
Desktop usb hub for charging multiple devices
Philips hue colour changing lightbulb
Small cross body 'man' bag for carrying stuff around when out and about).

Last year my now 12yo loved his echo (the one with the speaker) and a colour changing lightbulb. We have amazon music subscription and so loves playing any type of music on it.
He also loves the games he can play, especially the trivia ones.

Now I'm struggling with ideas for this year!

FairyJuice · 22/11/2019 14:41

What about something like an action cam (cheaper version of go pro) so that he can make videos?

LadyTamaraBeauchamp · 22/11/2019 15:27

Thanks everyone.

The echo dot sounds good. Do you need a hub as well to get the bulbs to work?

My DS is the same age and has asked for an Alexa, a gum ball machine and a tool kit with some wood so he can make things.

I’m also getting him a lumie alarm clock, a few books including this one which I think he’ll love.

Yeah, you need a hub for the bulbs which plug into your router. Likely to get Black Friday deals next week.

ColdRainAgain · 22/11/2019 16:18

Echo Dots (without a clock) are £22 today

BeaLola · 22/11/2019 17:20

google home mini is £19 in J Lewis today - bought for my son last year & loves it.

My DS is 11 - started a thread a while back with same Q and had lots of really helpful replies - mine is sporty - but good things I bought

colour changing lightbulb
Ripleys Believe it or Not
Latest David Walliams
Hot Chocolate & marshamallows
Jack Wills Hoodie
Lynx body spray
Wallet inc £20 Harry Potter picture Primark voucher
Jelly Beans

Can I just check, is it easy to set up the colour changing light with hub (for someone technically challenged!!)?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/11/2019 13:27

They're really easy to set up OP. We have Philips hue bulbs with their hub. All very easy to set up out the box. Then with the dot, you need an alexa app on your phone and the dot and bulb are easy to set up. You might find the 11 year old can do it - DS is increasingly better at tech than me! Grin

hopelesssuitcase · 24/11/2019 16:38

@LadyTamaraBeauchamp we have a light bulb and it is linked to a phone app which in turn is linked to the amazon Alexa thingy. We don't have a hub.

My 11 year old nephew absolutely loved his Swiss Army knife, made home feel very grown up.

Illustrated Harry Potter books.

Board games

Chemistry sets.

Remote control cars (big ones).

Hadenoughofitall441 · 24/11/2019 23:09

DS is 11 and not sporty either. He didn’t ask for much but have got him the newest Lego train, disco light, bubble machine (he’s into the disco set up) and a whole lot of sloth stuff as he’s really into sloths. Also got him a roblox playset he asked for.

Leflic · 24/11/2019 23:16

Mine loved the Himalyain Salt lamp. Supposed to take the negative ions out of a room - computers on a lot so there are many!
Penknife
Pen that has gadget attachments
Lego

(Mine also still loved getting a cuddly penguin in year 6)

haba · 24/11/2019 23:19

May I ask where the sloth stuff is from hadenoughofitall? My 11yo also adores sloths. (And I hope you're ok too Thanks)

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/11/2019 23:21

The new monopoly / Jenga game.
The Week subscription / annual
Lego
Lush bath bomb
Small chocolate fondue set (home bargains!)
Onesie
Power pack for his phone when he’s out.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 26/11/2019 22:35

@haba I’ve got some off of sass and belle and some from dunelm. 😊

haba · 27/11/2019 00:37

Thank you!
