Fun games for 2 adults and 12yo ds

I want something that’s fun, works just as well with 3 players and is not too taxing! I really hate having to think of a strategy so although we enjoy labyrinth, I don’t find it fun. Cluedo has been successful, as well as Love Letters and UNO. So many of the “fun” games (such as articulate) seem to involve teams which is difficult when there’s 3 of you.

Any ideas please? Sorry for yet another game thread.....

Hi OP, I'm in the same boat. We have enjoyed pandemic, it's a cooperative game which makes a nice change. Risk also is great for 3 of us, although it's quite a long involved game IMO.

BrieAndChilli · 18/11/2019 16:26

in our house with a 8, 11 and 12 year old we like

exploding kittens

bannagrams

Pandemic

The london board game

teenageanxy · 18/11/2019 16:30

Settlers of catan
Banana grams
Perudo

WaningGibbous · 18/11/2019 16:35

Really Nasty Horse Racing game.
I'm not sure I'd describe it as fun as you are more likely to end up planning murder Grin but it does clear the air somewhat.

JollyAndBright · 18/11/2019 16:39

Definitely exploding kittens.

Our 12 year old loves it.
It’s a funny game.

OlderthenYoungerNow · 18/11/2019 16:41

Exploding kittens thirded!

And pandemic seconded.

Curious2468 · 18/11/2019 16:43

Unstable unicorns
Fluxx
Bunny kingdoms
Carcassone
Dragonwood

Luckyleprechaun80 · 18/11/2019 17:36

Forbidden island is coperative, you all have to work together to collect treasures before the island sinks.
Tsuro
Deep sea adventure
Rummikub

JoanCallamezzo · 18/11/2019 17:40

Favourites in our house at the moment:

Sushi Go is a fun and fast card game
So is Sleeping Queens
Forbidden Island (this is great because you work as a team)
221b Baker Street (more involved but you can also work as a team to solve the mystery or play separately if you're competitive!)

JoanCallamezzo · 18/11/2019 17:41

Sorry I realise Forbidden Island has already been mentioned!

We also love playing just regular card games although I can never remember any rules!

StormyLovesOdd · 18/11/2019 18:00

We're a family of 3 with an 11 year old, our favs are Frustration and Rubik's Race

RomaineCalm · 18/11/2019 18:03

My vote is for Ticket to Ride. We love it and it works well for 3.

LeatherPouffe · 18/11/2019 19:51

Thanks all - we’ve actually got exploding kittens - just never played it! Will look at some of these. And have also just ordered 5 second rule from another thread

I'm looking at Ravensburger kNOW! quiz, we got Uno extreme last year that is a big hit still.

SummerintoAutumn · 18/11/2019 20:46

Dobble
Dixit

mamaduckbone · 18/11/2019 22:36

Exploding kittens definitely!
Sushi Go
Cobra paw
We tend to like the quick games rather than something long and strategic (dh gets bored first)

BrieAndChilli · 19/11/2019 07:11

Timeline is good and we have the normal general version as well as the Star Wars version.

Yes no game is quick and easy

teenageanxy · 19/11/2019 23:06

Scotland Yard! Cooperative game great fun

Escape From colditz

CrumpetyTea · 20/11/2019 23:53

the three of us play- Carcassonne/Settlers of Catan/ Ticket to Ride and endless monopoly

averythinline · 21/11/2019 11:17

playing as a 3 can be tricky we have lots of games we can only play when people round

biggish games
forbidden island - especially as can get different layouts to try.
ticket to ride (although DH prefers New york versions as quicker thinks full version monopolyish!)
Seven wonders
Flashpoint - preferred to pandemic - although havent played pandemic for a while so may try again....
Azul - only played a couple of times but would go back
Camel Cup - fun for all numbers..

quicker games
Gubz - (i prefer to sushi go ) almost as good as love letters which is fave!
Port Royal -
Jaipur - is a 2 player but we managed as a 3 fine - just tweaked the number of cards
Coup

looking at Sussed as card game and Santorini as this years....

Ellapaella · 21/11/2019 11:23

Forbidden Island - this has been a real hit in our household and is great fun.
Also 7 Wonders, although it's quite complex it's a good family game.

formerbabe · 21/11/2019 11:24

My DS 11, is currently obsessed with Uno...it's brilliant.
