She’s in her 40s. She likes reading and hiking. Recently got a caravan.

She’s not into makeup, etc.

I don’t want to get her vouchers, I’d like for her to actually have something to open Xmas day. I don’t think she’d appreciate any sort of Sanctuary type shower/bath set.

I don’t know what might be useful or good related to hiking or caravans. Don’t know what she has already.

So apart from a decent box of chocolates I’m stuck for ideas. Would spend £20-25.

What about some sort of book about popular or interesting hiking trails across the country, if she likes hiking and just got a caravan she's mobile to visit places she may not know about?!

Tashtash2 · 17/11/2019 09:39

Maybe some really good walking socks?

CroissantsAtDawn · 17/11/2019 09:41

Agree with sock or warm light weight gloves.

wildhairdontcare · 17/11/2019 09:42

A book on walks near her new caravan.
A really good flask.
Slippers to keep at the caravan.

Mumdiva99 · 17/11/2019 09:43

@Tashtash2 I was just going to say the same. A good pair of socks lasts years and is a lovely treat.

For the caravan - warm or waterproof clothing. A lovely snuggly blanket. A head torch - for walking around camp sites at night. A special mug for the van - I take a real mug camping - hate plastic or metal.

neverdidnt · 17/11/2019 09:49

Your SIL sounds similar to me. One of the best things I was ever given was a pair of lambskin mittens. They’ve lasted years!

VivaLeBeaver · 17/11/2019 10:06

I got her gloves last year.

If you like walking would you appreciate decent hiking socks, like some Darn Tough ones? I figure she already has socks but maybe not such expensive ones?

Books with walks in the areas she goes to is a good idea but not sure if she might already have them? So not sure whether to risk it.

Have a look at turtle doves they do beautiful cashmere wrist warmers and neck warmers. Wrist warmers would be useful for the chilly morning s in the caravan.

fedup21 · 17/11/2019 10:13

Contigo travel mug
Warm pyjamas
Good hat
Torch
Double-walled umbrella

Novembre · 17/11/2019 10:14

A decent flask
Good quality hiking socks

I keep a pair of binoculars in my caravan, for looking at random wildlife while we're out and about. I'm sure you can get an ok pair for £25.

LadyFlumpalot · 17/11/2019 10:52

A membership to a walks association? My dad gifted me membership to the South West Coast Path Association one year and it was a fabulous gift, the resources and discounts were definitely appreciated.

Membership to English Heritage or National Trust so she has access to places to visit/car parks etc whilst holidaying?

A copy of Bill Bryson's "Notes from a Small Island"? I love this book, his views of the area around where I live are hilarious.

I like camping and hiking and I can never have enough good socks... I also enjoy getting vouchers for outdoorsy shops so I can save and buy The Good Waterproofs.

Hope this helps :)

NoSquirrels · 17/11/2019 11:04

Definitely socks.

Seconding Turtledives wristwarmer suggestions.

Hand warmers?

Fiction or non-fiction books about places she likes - Cornwall, Lake District etc. Robert MacFarlane writes beautiful nature travelogue type stuff.

A new fluffy hat!

A set of nice crockery for the caravan?

PotteringAlong · 17/11/2019 11:14

Flask and really nice hot water bottle for the caravan?

goose1964 · 17/11/2019 12:04

A chilly bottle. That would keep her drinks cold in summer and hot the rest of the year.

WagtailRobin · 17/11/2019 18:36

A decent pair of walking socks, a nice scarf, a thermal flask, none particularly exciting but if it is what she likes that is all that matters.

Sn0tnose · 17/11/2019 20:36

Thirding Turtle Doves cashmere wrist warmers. I have several pairs in different colours and can’t recommend them enough.
