Gift ideas for my brother (45yo)

He lives in California so it needs to be something I can buy in the US and get sent straight to him.

He likes gardening but has everything, pretty much, and also is getting quite into barbecuing. So if anyone has any good ideas for unusual gifts relating to either, that would be great. Not novelty items.

If you buy from Amazon.com (rather than co.uk) it should be possible to get all kinds of things shipped directly to your brother.

Garden gifts... plant or small fruit tree, a gardening book, folding small table/chairs, or maybe an outdoor thermometer or clock?

I'd think a Steve Raichlen BBQ book would go down well.

The man's amazing: he even runs a 'BBQ University'!
His 'BBQ Bible' is a classic.

Haven't read his others, but can definitely recommend 'Barbecue Sauces, Rubs, and Marinades, Bastes, Butters, and Glazes'
Really useful.

A very ‘manly’ and hip leather barbeque apron?

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 15/11/2019 13:20

*Sorry! Just noticed you wanted "unusual" ideas.
Afraid a book's not exactly unusual. But he would get a lot of use from it!

What about hot sauce selection?
Or a meat pack selection?
Or something like a dash cam or weather vane?

Steelman, they hand make little steel ornaments for different professionals and hobbies, have a look at their range. They are quite small but ideal for someone who has a particular interest I think.

I have bought my metal dectectorist brother one, a little steel man holding a metal detector.

Thanks @ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap I’m going to steal your Steve raichlen rec for my Brother. OP lots of options in the bbq world;
Bbq Smoking sets
Rubs/glazes
Thermometers
Gloves/aprons
Bbq coal starters
Good bbq carving set...

I'm getting my 40yo brother a Swiss army knife and a replica of his tacky favourite mug from our childhood.

You could look at Etsy.com. They're USA based so have a huge number of sellers on there.

Just a quick look shows things like personalised signs, chopping boards, aprons or BBQ tool kits. Or rubs/spice sets for BBQs.

They have things for gardeners too - like personalised gardening gauntlets, trugs, gardening tools etc.
