Favourite smellies (not high st)

Looking for inspiration for SIL (mid 30s) and MIL (mid 60s). Want to try to look like I've made a bit of effort and not just done a Boots 3 for 2. Wink I mostly try to stick to bath and shower gel as I don't really know them well enough to know what face masks and haircare would be suitable for them.

I know SIL likes Lush, but I don't really like buying from them. I think I bought from Bomb cosmetics last year, which may be a option again this year. A lot of their gift sets I've seen seem to just be sets of bath bombs and I'd pefer to give a bit of variety. Probably looking to spend up to £30 each, cheaper would be fine as I can always pick up a few extra things. TIA

L’Occitane?

AllStar14 · 12/11/2019 12:03

L'Occitane almond shower oil is my favourite, around £20. They do an almond set of mini bottles including hand cream, and a few other items for about £20 aswell.

MustardScreams · 12/11/2019 12:06

Agree with L’Occitane, they do beautiful gift sets at Christmas.

Or Molton Brown? They usually have good deals on around this time.

Korres do lovely scented bath products & moisturisers.

Aesop if you don’t want too much plastic. Their hand balms are particularly lovely.

PlausibleHoot · 12/11/2019 12:13

Noble Isle is very nice, Molton Brown-ish but less well-known.

Arran Sense of Scotland (dreadful name, lovely products; used to be called Arran Aromatics) also lovely.

Tkmaxx has some great smellies and marks and Spencer’s have some really good beauty/bath brands too. Here are some of my favourite:
Rituals
Loccitane
Nuxe
Rabot 1745
Molton brown
Neals yard
The white company

Butterflycookie · 12/11/2019 12:33

I’d really recommend rituals. They have great gift sets at different price ranges. www.rituals.com/en-gb/home

itllneverfitinthecar · 12/11/2019 13:09

Tagging on to third Rituals.
The "original" orange range is my favourite. I think it is callled the Ritual of Happy Buddha. Not so keen on the dark red range.

Love Occitane at Christmas . Dr Hauscka or Weleda are both good too from health food stores. They might even package them up and throw on a few free samples if you ask nicely.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 12/11/2019 20:36

Some lovely, unusual, eco hand-made soaps & bath stuff on Etsy

AgentCooper · 12/11/2019 20:53

Agree on Dr Hauschka. I got a beautiful rose gift set for my sister for £25 last year, which is a massive bargain considering the rrp of each product in it.

TK Maxx have some lovely stuff. I’ve been coveting the Ortigia gift sets for ages, the packaging is stunning. Like this www.tkmaxx.com/women/beauty/body+bath/body+bath-sets/four-piece-gift-set/p/16199422#product-description-content

There’s a great deal on L’Occitane on QVC.

It’s today only I think.

Korres, Nuxe,

Genuine Q - why smellies ? Is there something else they would like - books, magazine subscription, stationery, candle, etc etc

Stefoscope · 12/11/2019 23:19

Thanks, some good suggestions so far. Had a quick look at the Rituals sets as several people reccommended them and they look very nice and good value for money. May go and have a rummage around TK Maxx and see if I can spot any of the other brands mentioned here.

I normally do smellies and chocolates for SIL as that's what she and BIL get me and I don't really know her well enough to think of anything else. We've tried asking BIL for suggestions but never got an answer from him, plus she's quite particular about what she likes according to MIL. MIL always asks for and appreciates smellies, candles, or a bottle of something so she's fairly easy to buy for. I'm not that into bath and beauty products myself, so it's good to have some idea on what are considered to be quality brands.

aah thanks for update.

Candles - I do like NEOM & have given as gifts - they sell in JLewis if you want to sniff them to decide favourites. I would sign up to their website if you like them as they usually do a 20% off at some point.

I do love their Intensive skin treatment candle - I have the Real Luxury one as prefer this smell - Full price is £36 but if you get a20% off will be within your budget. IMO the smell is lovely, it looks lovley and massaging the oil afterwards into my dry skin is definitely a treat. Appreciate that its not what everyone would love but I do,

I bought one last year for my dear friend and she loved it too. I would say it would make a good gift. Their other candles inc the Christmas specials are good too.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 13/11/2019 10:11

BeaLola,

Thanks for tip-off about the warmed treatment candles.
What a great concept!

Bit beyond my budget for now, but will definitely keep in mind for future gifts.
