Every year we have a big bundle of Christmas books that come out. It’s mostly young children’s story, pick a pine tree, Christmas at Exeter street that kinda thing.

My 3 girls love them so much but my youngest is 8 and I would like to get some that are a bit more age appropriate to add to the collection and I was reminded this morning of one I had and read every Christmas Eve when I was younger and wondered if anyone could remember it.

It was collection of short stories, and I think if I remember correctly some were more modern and others older. There was a family who didn’t have a lot of money but brought magic into house with homemade decorations and the father chopping down a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. There was one told by the cat on Christmas Eve and lots others that I can’t remember.

I do remember the front cover was navy as it a starry sky with a lighter blue snow covered town towards the bottom of the page.

Help!! Xx

That sounds a lot like Alison uttley’s stories for Christmas. When I get home I’ll see if I can find mine & post a picture

Yes, I thought the same immediately - loved this book as a kid, still have it now Smile Looks like it’s still available second-hand...

I remember this.

My favourite Christmas was her book “ The country child”. Such a sweet and naive girl and the very simple pleasures ( and disappointments) of a farming family
