Paw Patrol toys

I generally do my best to avoid TV character toys where possible, but do make exceptions sometimes, and my nearly 3 year old is completely besotted with Paw Patrol. He has a speech delay but has really put effort into saying 'me have Paw Patrol toys, play for me? Please?' enough times to tug at the heartstrings. I have been looking at the True Metal diecast set of vehicles and I think I prefer these to the bigger all plastic ones. There is also a 'true metal' compatible patroller that is actually all plastic Hmm, that transforms into a playset. Would I be making a mistake to go with this instead of the other big mission patroler vehicle? Am I overthinking this? Probably.

What has everyone else got for their Paw Patrol fans, any reviews?

Please use this thread to post any deals you find.

Hi OP,

I've gone for Paw Patrol for DD(2.5). She's obsessed. She already has a Skye blanket and teddy so I got her a Skye pillow (I know it's not what you asked) and I've got her all the figures with vehicles (except Everest, who's hard to find!) and the pirate ship (was half price on the entertainer website, not sure if it still is) but it's hard plastic, not flimsy plastic iyswim. I was tempted by the 'My Size Lookout Tower' but that looks like a massive lump of plastic so I don't know if I can bring myself to do it. DD also already has Skye with a helicopter (grey) and plays with it a lot. I know what you mean about phases with TV but I do really think that Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig are popular for quite a while (I don't know why!). Who's his favourite character?

A very quick look on the entertainer website gave me this. Also, I meant I got DD each of the sea patrol ones which are £10 each as opposed to £14. Maybe some of those (or the normal ones?) might be worth a shout?

The only thing about the true metal vehicles is that I believe the characters don't come out- which is fine if all he wants to do is race them but if he wanted to make up storylines, might be a problem? You can always donate the plastic ones to charity shops when done with but I do appreciate trying to buy less plastic!

BarbieInAMicrowave · 03/11/2019 10:05

@iwoulddoanything the Everest (and tracker) figures are exclusive to argos/Sainsbury's if that helps link

OP, as for the toys I personally wouldn't buy the die cast ones if they're the ones I'm thinking of cos the pups don't come out of their cars and that would really upset my (autistic) ds. Though of course your Ds might not mind that! However the plastic toys are really good quality I find, if pricy. We have the super large lookout tower, big boat, big paw patroller, plane and all the cars and pups and I rate them all - though we did get most of it on sale! They're my son's favourite toys

Thanks everyone! I actually think the figures not coming out of the diecast is a huge pro! It would be an endless losing battle to find them in our house! So I am definitely leaning towards those. But I can only find true metal Ryder and Everest (not included in the multipack) for hugely inflated prices on eBay, so I may buy those in the plastic versions from Argos, thanks for that tip. Not sure who his favourite is, it changes every day, between Ryder, Rocky, Sky, Everest and Zuma. He never says Marshall or Rubble!

We have some of both, DS enjoys both the true metal are similar size to the hot wheel type car and they are good for him to take out and about. The larger ones he takes the figures out swaps them about. Either will be a hit I think we tried just going for the die cast but the lure of the big ones got to DS

No advice but the story about the effort he has made with his speech made me well up a bit. I would absolutely be giving in too Grin my nearly 3yo has a slight speech delay too but has consistently asked for the past three months for a gingerbread man ans firetruck cake for his birthday so guess what I'll be making in a few weeks Wink

user1374384 · 04/11/2019 00:48

Thanks @Marsis, he has some Disney Cars diecast and they are the perfect size for throwing in my bag as travel toys, and playing with in the bath so another draw for the smaller diecast. I think I'll go for the mix.

Aw thanks @Somebodystired Grin, it's so cute hearing him finally string words together after waiting so long, I'm sure you can relate. Is it two cakes your son wants or are you going to try and combine the two designs?! Or can you get away with a gingerbread man biscuit alongside the cake? Either way, a firetruck cake is no easy task! Good luck with that. In our family every one has had a personalised Millie's cookie this year, so I'm thinking I might do the same for DS. Baking and decorating birthday cakes used to be something I felt was so important to do yourself but I've finally let go with that one after three DC and a hatred of baking Grin.

My 2.5yr old speech delayed DD is also obsessed with Paw Patrol but calls it “bubble, jase” who appear to be her favourite characters (Rubble, Chase). I haven’t bought any toys yet but we have clothing (t-shirts, pyjamas), jigsaw puzzles and books which are all a big hit.

Stacerini · 04/11/2019 08:18

My 3 year old DS is getting a Paw Patrol hovercraft and car. Following this thread for more ideas, as it’s his birthday after Christmas too.

user1374384 · 04/11/2019 10:12

Primark have very fluffy bright red and blue fleece pyjamas with Chase on @Blueroses99 think they were £7. I've got some for DS December birthday. I don't usually gift clothes to my own kids, especially at this age but he truly loves his other fleecy pyjamas and often brings me them to put them on him so I know he will be delighted with them.

We have the My size look out tower - all 3 of mine love it but I'm going to upgrade it to the new mighty pups one for Christmas for the 2 youngest & I will be donating the one we have now (which is still in excellent condition) to one of the charities.
We also have all the vehicles & my 8 year old (ASD) son will be getting the new true metal vehicles & patroller for Christmas (he loves cars / buses / trains).
I've also told other family members to get the new vehicles (Super paws) to go with the new tower as frankly we have lots of the other ones and I'm sick of spending a fortune on them - so I'm only going to buy a couple myself and they can get the rest!

None of the ones we have are flimsy, all still in excellent condition - just annoying as they keep bringing out new ranges and when you have big little fans on your hands it can get a little annoying!

bikinibottommuffintop · 04/11/2019 13:02

I’d have a look on eBay OP. I got my DS for his 3rd birthday all the characters in their vehicles, the massive jungle patroller and Carlos rescue jeep together in a bundle for £65. Saved a fortune and it was all in good nick.
