In particular I’d like to donate a gift sort of like the shoebox appeal.

I’m already doing one for the local animal shelter but would like to ideally help a woman’s refuge or refugees.

Any ideas?

blythswood do 2 shoebox appeals, one for the elderly and one for children. you will need to see if you have a collection point near you (see my link) and if so, you just drop the box off at the designated point x

I donate to my local food bank and also to a local charity that co-ordinates gifts for families (it is generally women and children) living locally in refuges and b&b type accommodation or who have just moved into more secure housing. They are generally suffering hardship due to previous domestic abuse.

There are many many worthy charities so I find it easier to think local.

If you would like a shoebox type thing, then You could full a shoebox with toiletries and small treats (no alcohol or painkillers or similar) for your local food bank or hygiene bank.

I always do Crisis at Christmas, St Mungo's and the Sally Army.

Last year also did a big shop just for the food bank, with extras such as Christmas tins of biscuits and other Christmassy treats. Will do again this year.

I always do a reverse advent calendar for the food bank and donate that at the end of November. My two dcs then pick a toy/gift for the salvation toy appeal. I do know the toy appeal struggle to fulfil the gift requests for older teens.

I volunteer for Home Start, and we are happy to receive gifts for children/families. We usually get toys rather than shoe box type presents, but if you rang your local branch I'm sure they would let you know!
Local police forces often do toy collections too.

Have a look at "Mission Christmas" there may be one local to you. You donate a gift which goes to a disadvantaged child in your region
