I want to buy my goddaughter (aged 5) an "older looking" doll (i.e. one that looks like a child with long hair rather than a baby). And one that's maybe slightly bigger.

It would also be great if it has outfits that come with it or can be bought separately.

Does anyone have any recommendations? They all look hideous to me but appreciate I am not the target market and I'm getting tied up in Amazon reviews which keep putting me off.

Our generation dolls. Loads of accessories and really good quality

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 28/10/2019 14:59

Yes, our generation are the dolls of choice in our house!

Clangus00 · 28/10/2019 15:07

Absolutely Our Generation.

iloveredwine · 28/10/2019 15:24

Our generation dolls or design a friend dolls from argos.

ParkheadParadise · 28/10/2019 15:30

Another vote for generation dolls.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 28/10/2019 15:35

Thanks all, I've looked at those and they look just what I'm looking for.

Do I win a prize for most use of the word "look" in one sentence?

I know nothing about dolls and am a fellow childless person (opened the thread for hints for my own present buying), but I just wanted to congratulate @thatmustbenigelwiththebrie on an awesome username!

Try frilly Lilly for extra clothes for OG dolls

user1573334 · 28/10/2019 16:29

In the UK it is between OG and Design a Friend. Personally I think Design a Friend have much more appealing faces, and I think are a little cheaper but have food reviews. I find the OG dolls creepy. Is this something she has asked for? Another alternative is the new Baby Born older sister and brother doll. All the usual Baby Born clothing and accessories are compatible size wise.

user1573334 · 28/10/2019 16:30

Have good reviews*

ArabellaDoreenFig · 28/10/2019 16:38

I would recommend the new Sindy dolls (think you have to get them from Tesco) they are lovely and have lots of bits you can get with them.

Or Lottie dolls- they are smaller but they are also very nice too.

ToastyFingers · 28/10/2019 16:39

Another vote for our generation here.

mummyof2boys30 · 28/10/2019 16:40

Dont have girls myself but my cousin is 9 and she has asked for everything my generation this year lol

CoffeeChocolateWine · 28/10/2019 16:50

Echo Our Generation. My DD is 7 and loves them and so do most of her friends. So many fun clothes and accessories you can buy too. I’m sure your goddaughter will be delighted with it.

TheGirlWhoLived · 28/10/2019 23:38

We have both design a friend and our generation - both are played with equally. Those new creator dolls look quite good too- you can change the hair etc and get non-gender specific outfits (I.e. a girl could perhaps have long and curly hair or shorter hair and wear a skirt, or shorts, or dungarees etc) it seems a lot more modern than the original barbie and reflects actual modern women

user1573334 · 29/10/2019 00:22

I do wonder if 5 might be a little younger than the target market for them. Most girls I know that love them are 7-11. My 6 year old is obsessed with baby dolls but not at all interested in these.

Designerenvy · 29/10/2019 00:30

I agree with those say " My generation doll ". Perfect for a 5 year old. Here's a pic of one.
