Vegetarian finger food ideas

Sultanainasalad · 27/10/2019 22:04

This is my first year hosting Christmas. There will be 4 adults and 2 young children (bil and sil staying for 5 days). Unfortunately 3 adults (not me) will be vegetarian ShockGrin even worse, they are trying to be vegan, so not too much cheese will be welcome. Christmas dinner is sorted but I'm looking for inspiration for Christmas Eve, Christmas morning etc when Kids and I are tucking into smoked salmon, Parma ham nibbles, bacon sandwich etc.

Any ideas for nice veggie nibbles, finger food, snacks?

Mini veggie quiches.
Quorn sausage rolls.
Falafel.
Cut veggies (red/green/yellow pepper, carrot, cucumber sticks, celery) with a dip.
Veggie cocktail sausages.

I’m veggie and was thinking of oven-baked eggs in a spicy tomato sauce for Christmas Day breakfast this year. Or skip the eggs, add chickpeas and some lovely bread to dip. Easy to prep ahead!

Shakshuka, or Moroccan baked eggs is the best recipe search.

Mini pizzas/pizza slices made with vegan cheese. I use this one for pizzas www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/bute-island-foods-ltd-grated-sheese-vegan-mozzarella-style-200g or you could just buy a ready made vegan pizza.
Mini vegetable spring rolls
Onion bhajis
Fry’s crispy meat free prawns www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/frys-vegan-meat-free-crispy-prawns-250g

Taifun smoked or pesto tofu (get it in waitrose) is lovely cubed straight from the packet

likeridingabike · 28/10/2019 07:05

I'm doing jus roll pastries Christmas morning, easy, everyone can eat them and I can pretend I'm a domestic goddess getting them out of the oven in my Christmas apron 😁

Hummous, crudités, bread sticks, mini jackets (roasted baby potatoes), guacamole, tortillas, salsa, mini quorn sausages, salad, flavoured cous cous just add hot water, microwave flavoured rice bags, olives, pimento peppers, artichokes (all in fridge deli section), potato salad, some nice bread.

WomensRightsAreContraversial · 28/10/2019 11:12

Aldi might do flavoured dips nearer the time or make them; beetroot and mint /horseradish, pea and mint and a red pepper one. Mushroom pate.

Tartex or granovita (you can get it in Holland and barrett) is a nice vegetarian/vegan pate for spreading on crackers, and is long life so you can get in early. Seems to be that few people know about it too, so you might get brownie points!

Garlic mushrooms; sliced mushrooms fried, add dollop of tahini, splash of apple cider vinegar, minced garlic and parsley. Delicious, creamy and vegan!

A plate of something warm would go down well with everybody - Chips or hash browns (you can buy mini ones), or new potatoes done as jacket spuds coated in butter and salt, or oil and fresh herbs.

WomensRightsAreContraversial · 28/10/2019 11:14

Oooh mini pickles, like cornichons, onions, and things like peppers or artichokes in oil - lidl does a good range in jars, again could get those in early!

In the world foods/Asian freezer section of the big supermarkets like Asda, Tesco you'll find vegetable samosas & Indian starters. They're made by Asian manufacturers so less sugary than supermarket own brand samosas. More authentic tasting too.

Jollymollyx · 28/10/2019 18:26

I would ask them what they recommend if they don’t eat dairy either!

Indian nibbles will work well

PhantomErik · 28/10/2019 19:48

Family of vegetarians & vegans here :)

Garlic bread slices (lots of cheap makes don't use butter)
Mini indian selections
Tesco do nice vegan cheese - cubes on cocktail sticks with pickled onions or pineapple etc
Pickled cauliflower/onions/gerkins
Houmous with veg sticks
Olives
Stuffed vine leaves
Crusty bread (with vitalite to spread on)
Hot garlic mushrooms
Hot new potatoes with vitalite
Falafel

Fried mushrooms in a bread roll with ketchup is a great alternative option to bacon sandwiches etc.

For breakfast try cooking up potatoes, peppers & onions with Cajun spice mix liberally sprinkled, serve with oven roasted tomatoes and vegan sausages (meat ones for you and kids). Morrison's has good vegan nibbles including vegan pigs in blankets

Glitterybelle · 17/11/2019 22:30

Marks and Spencer plant kitchen is so yum. Their not-zarella sticks are delish!!
Tapenade with crackers
Olives
Garlic mushrooms
Homemade Mini pizzas.... so little mini wraps, tomato pasatta, vegan mozzarella and then veggies on top
