Not much Christmas wrapping paper about?

I'm sure by October half term, I usually do a trip to m&s or supermarket etc and get wrapping paper, tags, bows etc so I have them in the house as I buy things.

I've been browsing online as I only go near shops as a planned event and there's nothing there?? None on the supermarket websites, m&s have a few bits but no 3for2 range....is it too early?? Is it Halloween focus? (Not sure that would affect M&S!)

It's annoying as I actually need to do a load of wrapping in the next week or so for an early family Xmas event for various reasons. Is there more actually in shops??!?

Use brown paper, far better for the environment and you can jazz up with resuable ribbons.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 26/10/2019 10:39

Stacks of it in the shops here (South coast) - M&S are doing 3 for 2 and 20% off at the moment too!

PersonaNonGarter · 26/10/2019 10:39

John Lewis has some online. Very lovely.

TheWoollybacksWife · 26/10/2019 10:39

I don't think that the supermarkets have as much seasonal stuff in compared to previous years - both Halloween and Christmas. You may find what you want in store or try Matalan, Wilkinson's or B&M - they usually have a fairly substantial Christmas stock.

You can't recycle it, how about using some of these brown paper ideas... hpin.it/udzadyq5eaxrue

Teachermaths · 26/10/2019 10:43

Use brown paper, newspaper, re use gift bags. Very little need for anyone to buy non recyclable gift wrap.

22Giraffes · 26/10/2019 10:49

I've seen quite a lot, in store and online! I've seen it in Morrisons, W H Smith, Smyths, Studio and John Lewis.

Squirrelblanket · 26/10/2019 12:13

You can buy wrapping paper which can be recycled, Wilko has a few good ones.

rainywinterday · 26/10/2019 12:26

@MilkTrayLimeBarrel how odd - M&S don't have much at all online....will have to go to the shops at some point!

Would like to find some recyclable paper so will check out wilko. Don't like brown paper really - I'd have to work too hard to make them look festive, need simplicity!

Its everywhere in the northwest and has been for at least a month. Even my nearest corner shop has it in. Try BMs, Home Bargains, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons etc, Next, Debenhams and Boots all have it in. You can buy online too, Boots, peacocks etc are all doing 3 for 2.

Wizzbangpop · 26/10/2019 12:32

because of where we are half term was last week. I feel like there has been more Halloween stuff and for longer this year, especially as the 31st doesn't fall in half term. I'm sure in other years by this point you cannot move for Christmas stuff in the shops.

maybe by next weekend once Halloween is out of the way then all of the Christmas wrapping and cards will be out in force

It's spendy but most of Paperchase paper is made from recycled paper and recyclable. Not all of it is, you need to click on the details tab. Available online and most on 3 for 2. I got loads in the January sale and they seem to still be selling all the styles I got this year.

BakewellGin1 · 26/10/2019 19:49

Supermarkets near us usually stock after halloween.
Next have some in Ive noticed x

Bigeater · 26/10/2019 20:37

user157 that's good to know

I use gift bags. Easy to reuse next year. Generally get the ones I gave family presents in back from them the following year.
Back in ye olden days I think they used material in posh households to wrap presents, with ribbon. Again, easy to reuse next year if you want an environmentally friendly solution.

PopeHalloweerious · 26/10/2019 21:13

Try charity shops. I used to get all mine from Oxfam, it was really nice - just don't have an Oxfam near me now.

abeautifulmess1234 · 26/10/2019 21:14

I got mine from IKEA last week

TrickyD · 27/10/2019 13:23

Wilko have rolls of red and gold paper, also some rather smart dark grey paper with tiny spots of gold sprinkled all over.

Wizzbangpop · 27/10/2019 17:29

I looked today in local fairly big Tesco's. Thought I'd try to spend the cost this year and not just all in December. The only Christmas stuff they had were biscuits& chocolates stocking fillers and jumpers. Which to me are the sort of thing you last minute panic buy not think of buying in advance

Elphaba17 · 27/10/2019 20:25

I haven't seen much about either but Lidl and Home Bargains both had their selections out yesterday.

rainywinterday · 28/10/2019 15:30

Well I went to sainsburys and Tesco in local area and nothing! Couple of small shelves with tubs of roses etc and some chocolate oranges etc and that's it!

I guess after this weekend it'll be full on Christmas but it is odd this year that shops are actually waiting!
