Aldi Christmas food?

Is it any good?

Last year I collected my food shop from m&s and it was so badly organised and stressful I vowed never to do it again.
The year before sainsburys who sent bread which went off Christmas day and slimy sprouts Hmm

I have said this year I am going to actually go shopping. I have a fairly new aldi over the road which is amazing. I've never had the Christmas food though other than the stollen etc.

Anyone bought their Christmas dinner from there and what did you think?

Had an Aldi Christmas last year and it was great - used to do Tesco everything but the prices kept creeping up and I changed supermarket completely. Didn't tell any of my guests that I'd bought everything from Aldi and when I told them in the evening after all food had been eaten nobody had noticed! I'll be doing it again this year!

Ilikesweetpeas · 23/10/2019 12:55

I’m hosting this year. Interested to know what you recommend please? Especially things I could buy in advance. Thanks

Seeleyboo · 23/10/2019 13:23

Last year we did Mark's and Aldi. Csn honestly say all of the Mark's food was disgusting and all of the Aldi bar one item was wonderful. It will be and Aldi Christmas this year.

Redshoeblueshoe · 23/10/2019 13:27

This year they have a selection of mince pies. I tried the almond ones last week, they were delicious. I'm trying some of the others soon so I'll let you know what they're like [santa]

KatherineJaneway · 23/10/2019 13:35

Ate Aldi turkey one year without knowing and I had commented how great it was. I'll be buying mine from there this year.

Icypop · 23/10/2019 13:35

My local aldi had run out of red cabbage by the 19th last year & didn't get anymore deliveries before xmas...other than that it was fab

Raver84 · 23/10/2019 13:35

It's all fab and you won't be disappointed at all. I think last year the few days before Xmas they had maris pipers, spouts, carrots etc for 20p. The meat I think is the best of all supermarkets and their specially selected mice pies, cheese and Xmas puds are lovely. Some good frozen bits too. We got salt and pepper rub of beef last year for around 20 pounds it was so lovely.

Charlottejade89 · 23/10/2019 13:42

We always do our food shop in aldi and christmas is no exception. We had a stunning dinner, everyone enjoyed it. And yes as another pp has said, they reduced the price of all their veg in xmas week to about 20p. Their mince pies are lovely as well

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 23/10/2019 16:18

Thanks everyone.

I do usually do most of my shopping there and haven't yet found anything I'm not keen on
So why I'm worried about Christmas I don't know.

I think its the pressure of hosting and trying something new.

This year they have a selection of mince pies

Ooh ooh did they have the chocolate orange ones? They had them the year before last and they were soooooo nice. But they didn't do them last year Angry

BigSandyBalls2015 · 23/10/2019 16:21

was the rib of beef frozen or fresh and do you get your turkeys frozen from there or fresh?

Lovemusic33 · 23/10/2019 16:37

We have a new Aldi opening in a few weeks, I shall be doing my Christmas shop there, just be prepared to queue as they never seem as organised as Tesco’s but it’s worth it for the price and the quality.

FiercyMacFierceFace · 23/10/2019 16:40

The black cherry mince pies were gorgeous last year (fingers crossed they come back), with a dollop of the vanilla liquer thick cream. Love their microwave mash too - one of the creamier ones available.

TanselleTooTall · 23/10/2019 16:45

Ooh watching!
I love beef rib roast but it's so rare we have it because of the cost.
I ate all the florentinesBlush. I only bought and opened the box to try one to see what they were like and then they were gone..
So they're totally recommended.

EL8888 · 23/10/2019 16:46

Aldi were on it last year. I bought my own Christmas food from M&S and made a Christmas dinner at work with Aldi stuff. Aldi performed very well and their pigs in blankets were far superior. Aldi’s nibbles stuff was tasty and well priced

Worlds0kayestmum · 23/10/2019 16:47

I always get my turkey there no problems. They do lovely brioche and the ready made carrot and swede mash is delicious

hauntedvagina · 23/10/2019 16:58

We've started buying the frozen party style food (and testing it Blush). So far it's been lovely! Were definitely having an Aldi Christmas this year except for the meat, that will be from the butchers.

Thirtyrock39 · 23/10/2019 17:38

I got everything from Aldi last year and it was great. I did two shops- all the non perishable in the middle of the school day last week of term so that it wasn't to busy and I only had to wade through the last minute crowds for the fresh stuff
This year I have been trying not to hit supermarket meat for various reasons so will not be buying meat from Aldi but that's not based on them specifically

Squirrelblanket · 23/10/2019 18:13

We've had everything from Aldi for the last four or five years and it's been lovely!

Sumlove · 23/10/2019 18:20

We did Aldi last year. No complaints. The party food was great and comparable to m&s

icecreamsundae32 · 23/10/2019 18:21

Yep I got there for opening time on 23rd dec got a fresh turkey crown with bacon on it, goosefat roast potatoes, specially selected stuffing balls and pigs in blankets, turkey gravy and bread sauce, if you like parsnips their honey roasted ones are nice and if you like sprouts their pre done ones with bacon are good.
Their desserts and treats are really good too, lovely florentines, cocoa dusted flavoured truffles taste just as good as Marks! We usually get their fresh Yule log but the other desserts look good too!

I was in and out within 30 mins as I knew what I wanted and where to go, there was a queue to get in tho and when I left there were only 2 trolleys left and it was packed!!

annie987 · 30/10/2019 21:34

Aldi is great for everything Christmas except the potatoes if you have mash. They just disintegrate to nothing. I get potatoes at Sainsbury’s and everything else at Aldi.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 31/10/2019 11:06

We had the leg of Serrano ham on a wooden plank last year. It lasted us practically until Easter.

Aldi Christmas food is lush though, especially the puddings and sweet treats.
