What are you doing for NYE?

We moved house about a year ago and we don't have any particular firm friends where we live. DH and I like to do something with our primary aged DC but I don't think we will fancy trekking three hours back to our old town to hang out with our usual crowd.

I can't decide whether to host a gathering and use it as a chance to invite some of our acquaintances in our new area and hope for the best or do something just the four of us. I'd love to head off to Center Parcs or something similar but I've looked the prices up and they are £££.

What are you all up to and why?

Night in on NYE. I dont go out clubbing or anything. If we do venture out then it's to a relatives house for a NYE party. Last year I was the only one who saw midnight, OH and ds1 +2 had fallen asleep 😂 for us it's a case of "let's see how we feel on the night" job.

Oooh no, my clubbing days are long gone too!

I used to love NYE and the kids are used to staying up but I don't know if it will be a bit of an anticlimax if it is just us this year.

Going to my DB and DSIL and will escape just after midnight

I don't do anything,I have Benn working for so many of them that I can't be bothered to celebrate,and it's a take celebration too near Christmas.
I think we should bring back 12 th parties,celebrate the end of Christmas(and I think the 3 kings finally make it around
then)
Communities should gather,have giant bonfires from the Christmas trees and feast on all left over food and chocolates.

Need to make plans because our last two were ruined by DH's grown up son, who has no friends, imposes himself on us at the last minute and then is generally rude and unpleasant to our guests. After last year, DH said never again so we had initially thought of going away.
BUT, the prices are crazy and we need a new roof.
So then, we thought we might go out for a nice meal, but they tend to be fixed menus at sky-high prices...
Am thinking of just staying in and telling everyone we are out (at the smae time knowing that if DH gets a call from his son, he'll have him over and it will just be a repeat of previous years).

I'd like to go away too but it is just so expensive. @Thehagonthehill - that sounds fun. I wish there were organised fireworks displays like in Australia for us to go to.

@paap1975 that sounds tricky. Turn all the lights off and close the curtains.

Ideally an early night. But fireworks at midnight always wake dc up.

Oooh I love fireworks (we don't do them at home ourselves) but I can see how it is annoying when they wake up the DC.

We treat ourselves to a fancy lunch out and a couple of drinks, including a walk if the weather is ok.

We're usually home for about 4/5pm then we just stay in with fizz and party food to nibble on. Sometimes we're up at midnight and sometimes not, we just do what we feel really. It's lovely and chilled out.
