What games would you recommend for a 7 year old (when we’ll be playing too!)?

We have lots of Orchard toys games which he obviously growing out of, but still plays with younger brother. He also loves Bugs in the kitchen, Monopoly Junior, Jenga, Dobble, UNO, Connect 4 etc. His younger brother will be receiving Twister & Shark Chase, but my mum would like ideas of some games for him.

TIA

The children I look after love mouse trap, it’s a definite favourite for all ages😊

ColdRainAgain · 13/10/2019 20:47

Labyrinth was popular about that age

Junior Carcassonne might keep all 4 of you happy. Simple enough for the 4 yr old, but remarkably playable as an adult. I wouldnt spend the £30 Amazon are asking currently tho.

Dobble is an absolute must.

Guess who, scrabble, junior cluedo, rummikub and just a normal deck of cards!

Equimum · 13/10/2019 21:24

Thanks everyone. I’ll look at Labyrinth and Junior Carcasonne.

The main monopoly, Bananagrams, Chess/Draughts set.

Dobble, or if he likes Harry Potter then Harry Potter Dobble! Both my kids aged 9 and 4 love that game! It is a really simple concept and so much fun to play.

Uno, Top Trumps and Scrabble have also been a hit over the last year or two.

xalyssx · 13/10/2019 22:25

My 7 year old loves Game of Life best.

Plasticsequins · 13/10/2019 23:06

My 7yo loves Monopoly and Cluedo. He makes his own versions too.

Canklesforankles · 13/10/2019 23:16

Rat a tat cat is great fun. We only used to play it with two people and my DD could beat me by keeping her poker face and remembering cards better than me.

Draughts dominoes card games

Stinky pig is funny.

We play a lot of games as a family. Our favourites for our 6 and 8yos are:

Junior labyrinth
Carcassonne
Catan junior
Ticket to Ride first steps
5 second rule junior
Enchanted forest
Eye spy Disney
Loopin' Chewie

livingthegoodlife · 14/10/2019 10:46

Labyrinth is popular here.

We are buying Train to Ride for a joint Xmas present.

They also like Enchanted Forest (Ravensburger).

Equimum · 14/10/2019 14:21

There are some great ideas here, thanks everyone. I think Ticket to Ride first steps will be right up his street, and we can introduce him to Game of Life as well, I have my old set at my mum’s house.

Exploding kittens

Goldensunnydays81 · 14/10/2019 14:33

We have just got avocado smash which has been quite funny to play!

SleepyPaws · 14/10/2019 14:38

Another vote for exploding kittens. Our 8yr old loves it.

WellTidy · 14/10/2019 14:52

Draughts is a good one. Classic.

What about Battleships?

banskuwansku · 14/10/2019 15:02

My dd7 likes scrabble very much so she will get that one. She is also getting a hatchimal game that was a bargain. I don't know what the game is but it has collectibles dd likes.

Equimum · 14/10/2019 16:40

Thanks again. I like the idea of Battleships. Again, we had that when we were small, and think he would love it. I don’t think he’ll have the patience for Scrabble just yet (only just turning 7), but exploding kittens is already a firm favourite here.
