I'm making my first christmas cake, my fruit comes in our shopping delivery tomorrow, I wanted to bake on sunday. Will an overnight soak be enough or should I really wait until next weekend?

I’ve only ever done an overnight soak and it’s been fine.

Overnight is fine. I have boiled fruit in alcohol in the past when I've been very pushed for time Grin

Overnight soak will work perfectly well, I've never heard of a three day soak!
Don't forget that you will need to consumer test the soaking agent, eg sherry or brandy, beforehand, to ensure that it is of a suitable quality, (otherwise known as Cook's Perks)!

I feel a lovely Sunday coming on. Thank you

My fruit is currently on day 3 soaking. It's a Mary Berry Recipe I'm using.

did mine for 3 months but I'm not convinced anyone would notice :-) I only did this because last year I forgot entirely and a friend work said her daughter had her fruit in brandy for that long. Will see if I can tell the difference when it's eaten. I'm rather wondering (with the amount of brandy I put in) whether I might be a little too sozzled to tell after a slice.

Mines been soaking for two weeks so far! But overnight will be fine
