Hello :)
Today I started thinking about the decorations for my annual christmas do. Is white with gold and silver accents classy or tacky?
Dreaming of a long table with a white tablecloth, white napkins, sugar cookies with white icing and golden writing as place cards and gold and silver baubles arranged on real fir branches as a centrepiece, together with maybe a string of lights or two.
The tree won't fit the decoration, simply as it's become a bit of a tradition to have sweets and biscuits hanging from the tree and people picking them whenever they fancy something.

livingthegoodlife · 01/10/2019 14:13

I think white and gold sounds lovely. It doesn't matter if the table looks different to the tree.

Whitecandle · 01/10/2019 14:41

@Christmasglitterfairy sounds gorgeous.

ppeatfruit · 01/10/2019 14:46

Egremont If you' don't do alcohol, the solid marmalade could be melted gently in a large pot, blended with a hand held blender after adding fizzy water or still , until you like the flavour. For a nice drink for the children or whoever ! Or added to a homemade cake\pudding.

The possibilities are endless Grin

ppeatfruit · 01/10/2019 14:50

Oh It's nice to join this thread again, if a bit worry making ! Though I don't make an Xmas cake now we don't like it. I'll make one of the lighter ones probably a chocolate log.

Whitecandle · 01/10/2019 15:01

@ppeatfruit love a chocolate log!

ppeatfruit · 01/10/2019 15:56

Me too Whitecandle Grin The Delia Smith flour free one is the best IME. With the lovely marscapone and chocolate ganache filling! Yum

Whitecandle · 01/10/2019 16:49

@ppeatfruit 😳 I will be making that one this year!! Sounds lush

NoWordForFluffy · 01/10/2019 17:37

I have a (fake) Kilner jar and a litre of vodka to do the cranberry vodka! I can't wait!

EgremontRusset · 01/10/2019 17:42

ppeatfruit have you ever blended marmalade into water yourself, or is it more theoretical? I just imagine it being gloopy and gritty...

I think I will probably go for marmalade and bay leaf gin and see how DH feels about ham for Christmas dinner.

Oh I love the poncetastic threads, but they cost me a lot of time and money. I'm not really allowed to start making until mid November. It's the law.

Last year I made ribbon garlands and sold lots, made £100 or so, and rude sweary cards in traditional styles on brown paper with my trusty alphabet stamps. And quilted wreaths.

So far this year I've made salt dough gingerbread scented tree decs because I want to do a cookie themed tree.
And my cake (but that was because Dh wanted a Christmas cake for his birthday cake, so I made 2)

I am saving tuna tins to make mini cakes as gifts. I've also bought a vintage tea set to do mini aloe plants in teacups on saucers for teachers gifts (price 30p each, get in!)

Right. Must wipe this thread from my memory now!!

Well you do have to have a powerful blender, which can 'smooth out' anything it's not got grit in it has it Egre ? If so you can put it through a muslin after the blending. I do make raspberry coulis sauce with fresh raspberry jam and you have to put that through a muslin cloth to refine it. It's true

tweedledeedo · 02/10/2019 12:50

Tuna tins to make mini cakes! Why have I never thought of that?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/10/2019 12:57

Tweedle they need to be the ones you open with a can opener, as the ring pull ones have a ridge round the rim. I made a sample one when I made my main cake and it worked really well (obviously timing etc needs to be adjusted) and I reckon I'll get 8/9 from a 1kilo fruit mix

tweedledeedo · 02/10/2019 13:03

@thenewaveragebear1983 thanks. How long did you bake them for? They'll be so tiny Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/10/2019 13:11

They took about 45 mins on a low setting. They are surprisingly chunky actually, it was easily a 2 slice portion I reckon.

Trial and error, you'd have to watch them (and obviously get to eat the spoils!)

tweedledeedo · 02/10/2019 13:24

Ok, off I go to eat some tuna!

ppeatfruit · 02/10/2019 15:19

theaverage That is a brilliant idea about the vintage tea set with aloe plants in them, I'd have loved one of those as a teacher Grin (instead of the talcum powder and stuff I was given Grin )

princessbear80 · 02/10/2019 15:44

Loving the tuna tin cake pan idea. Must eat the tuna that’s been languishing at the back of the cupboard now.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 02/10/2019 15:48

Signing in, I LOVE the Poncetastic threads!

RhubarbCrumbled · 02/10/2019 15:52

Can I join this year? I've finally got the building work finished and a sort of tidy house and the whole family for the whole of Christmas so I can feel a poncetastic one coming on! I finished my Christmas cross stitch last month but need to frame it (picture to come!), the Rumtopf is coming along nicely and I've got a couple of bottle of sloe gin ready to go!

And I've just bought the Nigel Slater book from further up the thread. Sorting out the freezer tonight so I can start cooking!

NoWordForFluffy · 02/10/2019 18:15

Cranberry vodka is go!

We just used a BBC recipe, which is 250g cranberries, 175g caster sugar and 1l vodka.

Toadsrevisited · 02/10/2019 19:58

My mum used to make me my own Christmas cake in a medium sweetcorn tin which was a good size @didireallysaythat

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2019 08:17

tinnitsarina I have only just read the whole of the thread Blush dh and I are basically gluten free. I use rice flour in place of normal flour in all the recipes that need flour, of course, and have found it nicer than GF flour. In rich cakes like brownies I use ground almonds which really does make a difference if you don't overbake them!

livingthegoodlife · 03/10/2019 10:35

Poncing with Christmas cards this morning. Very amateur & rustic but I like them. & Recycled/recyclable (I know there is a bit of glitter..... Shush!!)
