@QueenOfIce

I knitted 24 of these the other year as an advent calendar.

Little stockings

QueenOfIce · 27/09/2019 16:12

@Trumpton I love those! Have I got time to learn to knit and knit them though!

I'm going to do a house trees and a car with a tree in the back for my lantern. Thankfully our cats aren't fussed about the Christmas tree but a large lantern might be a nice touch for those who's cats decimate trees maybe.

doodlejump1980 · 27/09/2019 18:31

@princessbear80 the penguin and dog patterns aren’t mine but I’ve put the link in along with the snowman pattern (which is mine).

doodlejump1980 · 27/09/2019 18:32

@Trumpton those knitted stockings are so cute!

TheCanterburyWhales · 27/09/2019 20:02

Evening all!
Been in and out of these threads since Fellatio started them...I haven't done anything yet, but will be making the cake over the next few weeks.
I threw out last year's shrivelled orange slices only the other day (they were still fine actually but I just want to make more!)

livingthegoodlife · 27/09/2019 20:02

Went to Hobbycraft today and bought supplies to make my own poncetastic cards. Also bought craft brown paper with striped twine for gift wrap. I'm planning a busy few weeks making cards!!

livingthegoodlife · 27/09/2019 20:03

Forgot to say I cooked the cake yesterday!

starryeyedsnowgirl · 27/09/2019 21:13

Woohoo! Finally found you all. My app has been all glitchy this week. I am currently clearing freezer space to begin Christmas making. Got to get through one last birthday this weekend and all the baking that will come with it and then I can think about Christmas cake.

I haven't collected brambles this year and think I am probably too late so no bramble gin here. Boo. What others have people had success with?

I have taken each year now to buying another Christmas cookbook after realising that the Christmas good food magazine is around £6, but I can buy second hand copies of cook books for under £3 on abebooks. So this year I have bought jamie oliver. Loved nigellas one though- the brownies are epic. What is everyone going to make in advance?

starryeyedsnowgirl · 27/09/2019 21:15

When I typed the above message it was in three paragraphs. I have no.idea what happened. Sorry!

duckling84 · 27/09/2019 22:05

Thank you for the thread @nerosfiddle

I have some sparkly gold felt which I'm going to turn into a star tree topper as ds2 doesn't like our angel (who is coming up to her 15th year on top of our tree so maybe she is due a break). If it turns out well I'm also hoping to make some felt christmasy garlands.
I'm more of a crafter then a cook really, looking forward to following this thread and seeing what everyone gets up to

NoWordForFluffy · 27/09/2019 22:13

These brownies are nicer than Nigella's!

EgremontRusset · 27/09/2019 22:54

Just doing some low key poncing here, nothing involving a glue gun. But I have a food dilemma you all might be able to help with... earlier this year I made blood orange marmalade, but it crystallised right through, and more resembles a solid block of candied peels! What can I
do with it for Christmas? I thought of re-melting it, chopping finely and adding to mincemeat, but is there a more creative option?

NoWordForFluffy · 27/09/2019 23:00

Could you not glaze a ham with it?

tweedledeedo · 28/09/2019 00:06

Ooh, I'm doing those lanterns queen thanks.

Ordering little trees right now on eBay 😁

Trumpton · 28/09/2019 00:13

EgremontRusset
Melt it slightly and add to a bottle of gin ( I add sugar as well )
Amazing and very dangerous when topped with fizz on Christmas morning !

@historysock
Sloe gin is better at a year old... Could make it now for next year M, but do blackberry vodka this year?

historysock · 28/09/2019 07:01

I'm dong that too! Picked a ton of blackberries last weekend. Great year for berry' ing.

PointeShoesandTutus · 28/09/2019 07:30

Love this!

I’ve got rhubarb gin brewing in the garage, I’m booked onto a fresh floral wreath making class at the start of December and I’ve made a start on the present shopping.

I’m going to plant up some iris bulbs in pretty pots as gifts for DDs nursery workers, and maybe do a big tulip/daff/crocus lasagne as presents for the grandparents.

I need to decide what I’m doing with the cake. Only DM likes it, and we always do a big trifle/tiramisu so I’m not sure we need a cake. But it feels a bit sad without. My DH is eying up a Christmas Colin the caterpillar too. Definitely not poncetastic. Hmm

Trumpton · 28/09/2019 08:07

@QueenOfIce
I found a photo !
The lights were bought for my DH’s first Christmas ...he is 68 now !

Whitecandle · 28/09/2019 08:19

Anyone have a recipe for blackberry vodka??

Whitecandle · 28/09/2019 08:19

Sorry message posted prematurely.

I've never made alcohol before but would love to try this year.

duckling84 · 28/09/2019 08:32

Ooo we picked loads of blackberries the other week which are currently in my freezer. Was planning on making BlackBerry gin, would vodka work better? I've never infused my own alcohol before.
I love the mini stockings garland, I may crochet one this year.

Trumpton · 28/09/2019 08:52

I do prefer blackberry brandy but it’s all the same process .
Bottle of spirit . 350gms of sugar, 350gms fruit . Add to Kilner jar . Shake . Leave but give it a shake every week or so .
If you think it needs encouraging to dissolve the sugar then stand the jar in a bowl of hot water or run through the dishwasher . ( really , it’s a thing ! )

Whitecandle · 28/09/2019 08:54

@Trumpton how long does it need to infuse?
