In demand toys of the year?

Before now I’ve had the fingerling tucked away and heard of friends already back orders for the LOL house but this year I’ve not heard a thing.

I seem to remember one retailer ‘putting out’ their toys of the year but no others as such to build the momentum!

What do we think are going to the toys of the year that I need to be working out if my son is going to be sucked in by..

Sorry not the point of the post but wasn't the Fingerling a complete waste of money. 😂

Toomanycats99 · 13/09/2019 06:30

My daughter did love her fingerling!

Last years big waste was the lol shop thing!

lotsofthingstolearn · 13/09/2019 06:32

It was but I felt a certain smugness that I’d got DS and various others them.

Did the same with Polly Pocket last year and wasn’t the hype was made out it wasn’t going to be... but allegedly they’re still being played with by recipients

I bought the spiderman jet that's being advertised a lot atm for my spiderman obsessed son. Just a heads up, it is massive! Didn't realise it was bigger than normal imaginext sets

Lol things seem to be getting bigger and more expensive . The new winter chalet is 289 euro Shock
The glamper van is over 100 euro and then all the new dolls that are out Hmm
I also bought the Polly pockets last year thinking they were going to be big and they were barely played with.
I’m going to hold back a bit this year and wait until maybe beginning of November to make a call!

In all honesty, stop being a mug! The kids barely use these much hyped toys so often. Stick to toys with longevity and put the excess spending money into a savings account, they will thank you far more at 18 when you can buy them a nice laptop for university than having overpriced plastic with a logo on (in 9/10 cases you can buy a generic version for a fraction of the price!)

I have come to the conclusion over the years that the most hyped toys are usually the worst.

They usually loose their appeal very quickly and are thrown into the corner for the rest of the year.

Perfect example last year with the poopsie unicorn I didn't buy one as I knew it would be one of those toys but most friends got them and I don't know one that wasn't disappointed and felt like they'd wasted their money so I don't bother anymore unless I know they're going to be played with.

I completly agree on the hyped toys being the worst.

We have had Hatchamals, Fingerling unicorn, Pomsies and the pooping unicorn. The Hatchamal was only played with while it hatched then not touched since, the fingerling and pomsie max 20 mins each and the pooping unicorn was just bloody big, hard and the slime wasnt all that great.

Not doing any of the popular toys this year.

This is one advantage of having a DS with SEN, he wouldn't notice what the other DCs are asking for.
I did get the Mog one year but only by asking in store.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 15/09/2019 12:36

this year I think it will be the new LOL big surprise thing and the campervan that sells out. dd has already asked for the big surprise but at £130 she will not be getting it.

possibly the Harry potter lego advent calendar will sell out.

I'm avoiding all hype type toys as they don't get used, it's a 10 min wow I got what i asked for then they spend the next hour playing with a pack of top trumps and some bubbles 🤣 or with the wrapping paper!!

drspouse I find the exactly same thing. My boys are a lot more expensive in many ways day to day but for Christmas their tastes are pretty cheap. Aside from the Leapfrog Ice Cream cart a few years ago I have never had to worry about having to find anything with stock shortages.
