Hi all

Looking for inspiration for 11 month old boy - 11 months at Xmas.

I went on he hamleys website and couldn’t work out how to filter by age, and I kept picking this for 3 years olds !

Toy options, will get some clothes etc

Just don't go overboard. A few things are plenty.

One 'big' thing that went down well with Gdd at that sort of age, and later with Gds, was a furry push along dog on wheels, very sturdy and good for wee ones who've just started toddling, or very soon will.
Any really sturdy push along thing would probably be good, if you don't already have one.

Think ahead. He has his birthday and Xmas very close together so no new haul until he’s nearly 2. Go for presents for 18 months-ish. Duplo, megabloks, first wooden jigsaws, fisher price toy phone (they love them even though they look nothing like an actual phone these days!)

milliefiori · 11/09/2019 11:07

wrapping paper
cardboard box
Grin

Seriously, I'd get them a push along toy such as a dog or box of bricks, or a sit and scoot tricycle and a cuddly toy and new clothes.

DS especially loves his Little Tikes lawn mower, water table, Mega Bloks and the Galt toys Frog in a Box. Got them for Christmas at 7months and still playing with them now.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 11/09/2019 11:17

A ride-on toy, trike or a walker as a main present?

My son had a whizz around garage with chunky cars for his first Christmas and it was very well loved.

Other good toys are wooden blocks, shape sorted, peg and hammer bench. My daughter is 15 months and she adore this drum

mummabubs · 11/09/2019 11:21

Our DS is a November birthday- would reiterate what others have said:

  • don't go overboard. We honestly just got him one small toy for Christmas last year.
  • good idea to buy toys more for the 18 month range as he'll use these throughout the year (we used this approach for his birthday, again we didn't get him much at all but this worked well and means he's actually now getting a lot of use from the things we bought.
CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 11/09/2019 12:22

I agree you don't want to go overboard and should aim for toys in the 12 - 18 months/18 -24 month bracket that he can grow into.

cloth books are lovely.

Wooden toys such as this cute owl puzzle or a shape sorter.

Maybe a walker? Mine had this one which lasted through both dc and a cousin.

If he doesn't already have them, every tot needs hide n squeak eggs Grin.

MamaRaisingBoys · 11/09/2019 12:57

I came on to say hide n squeak eggs!

Literally just a couple of things. He'll have no clue. What he will love is the day, the attention, the Christmas TV, plus umpteen pressies from everyone else, lights, wrapping paper.

I went way overboard for DS 1st birthday and have learned from that. For what was technically his second Christmas at 18mths, he got almost bugger all from me, and had an amazing day with all the other stuff mentioned above. You've got yeeeeaaaaars ahead to go Christmas crazy (if you want) when they actually enjoy it and want things and appreciate opening presents.

mrsed1987 · 11/09/2019 22:10

my lo will be 11 months at xmas too we have got him

walker
car garage
bubble machine

some little things for his stocking like bath toys ect

AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo · 12/09/2019 10:29

Pull along or push along things - anything with wheels was popular with mine at that age.

Isadora2007 · 12/09/2019 10:45

My grandson will be just over that by Xmas but I’ve got him a small wooden pram from Argos that was only £20, a Rubens barn mini doll (but a cheaper doll would suffice!) and a story sack with his favourite book (dear zoo) plus all the animals from the story in small wooden form from the website www.littlefootprints.co.uk with free delivery

firstiwasafraidiwaspetrified · 12/09/2019 10:47

tabbycat985 · 12/09/2019 11:16

I've just written this on another thread but the Fisher Price school bus has been an absolute hit in our house for 1st birthday. It is literally carried/pushed everywhere!

incontrolofmyownlife · 12/09/2019 11:18

Agree for thinking ahead!

I would suggest....

A shape sorter
A pull along toy of some description
Ball
Stacking rings

Those are things my DD enjoyed Smile

Then maybe a garden toy for when the weather changes and he's slightly older? Sand/Sanger table or something.

incontrolofmyownlife · 12/09/2019 11:19

*water table

Equimum · 12/09/2019 11:48

My so ‘s Birthday is also very close to Christmas. For his first birthday/ Christmas he got:

  • Little tykes car
  • Indoor ride-on
  • Duplo
  • lift-our puzzles
  • shape sorter
  • swing for the garden
MyNameIsRachel · 13/09/2019 21:22

I’ve already got him eggs !! Haha!

Thanks for all the ideas.

I guess because he will be nearly 1 I wasn’t sure if I should get things 12 months +

My son’s favourites are vehicles he can push along and his ball pit. Last Xmas he got some toys that were too old for him and he’s grown into them during the year.
