Can I get away with putting my Christmas decorations up the last week of November? I can never wait!

Around the second weekend of December.

IncrediblySadToo · 10/09/2019 12:28

Usually the first weekend in Dec, but I have been known to put them up the first weekend in Nov and last year we were renovating (and didn’t want them to get ruined - massive amounts of dust on textiles and intricate tree ornaments) so they didn’t go up until the week before Christmas and we went on renovation strike 🤣😂. Will have to do the same again this year but I’m going to put them up earlier and go on strike sooner. - tempting to do it today looking at the sanding and crap I’d rather avoid 🤣🤣

IncrediblySadToo · 10/09/2019 12:30

Generally they stay up until the 12th night, but past few years I’ve been loathed to lose the pretty nights on the dark nights- so the tree has stayed up, then the lights have been draped over other furniture until I’ve gone from prolonging Christmas to ‘mad woman with coloured fairy lights’ and had to put them away ☹️

Middle of December usually. But each to their own.

What I can’t stand is the fact it is SEPTEMBER and there are already Christmas chocs and decs in shops. It absolutely grates on me as it’s just shoving commercialism down our throats and contributes to people overspending on a holiday that should be about spending time with those you love and enjoying yourself.

Some time in the first week of December.

MikeyTheMouse · 10/09/2019 12:48

15th November for my mums bday

Parker231 · 10/09/2019 14:03

@IncrediblySadToo - I’m the opposite. I like the decorations down in time for New Years Eve party so that there is nothing Christmas around to start the New Year.

Gingerivy · 10/09/2019 14:14

Usually the last week of November, but for the last couple years I've let the dcs decide. Last year they went up just before Halloween. Grin The year prior they stayed up until the end of March (not my choice - my younger dc was struggling and wanted them up longer as he wasn't "ready" for them to go away).

I've already heard them discussing it, so it's likely going to be October again this year. I'm not fussed - I love Christmas and as it's inside our home, it bothers nobody else.

Gingerivy - brilliant! I wish I had the guts!

If I let the DC decide we’d have Christmas/Easter/Halloween/Birthday decorations ALL up ALL year around 😖

blacksmiths09 · 10/09/2019 20:21

I put ours up end of October beginning of November

Incredibly The year they stayed up until the end of March was a little stressful for me. I love the decorations, but my younger dc just couldn't cope with them going away until then, and I had promised I would wait until he was ready. I'll admit that even for me, 5 months of Christmas décor, including Christmas tree, in the house seemed extreme. Any time someone came over to do a repair, there was always a puzzled look, so I explained that we were waiting until the dcs were ready. Last year he was ready by the end of the first week in January, so I'm hopeful that will happen again this year too. And very pleased we have an artificial tree. Xmas Grin

We have friends that pointed out that their children were quite disappointed that our decorations came down so early last year, as they had been hoping for another few months of Christmas when they came over.

21st Dec?

Isadora2007 · 10/09/2019 21:27

Halloween stuff is up from ds’s birthday 27/10 until bonfire night... and then we have a weekend or two to sort and clean the house in preparation for the Xmas stuff. Then from the third weekend in November the festive stuff sneaks in with the tree going up the closest weekend to the 1st (so this year will be 29/30th November) and then more getting added as we have lots of Christmassy bits like throws and lights in most rooms and crockery and glasses etc so it doesn’t all need to come out at once.
My Emma Bridgewater Christmas mug is allowed out for Xmas wrapping beverages all year round but gets brought out for daily use mid November onwards.
