Can I get away with putting my Christmas decorations up the last week of November? I can never wait!

OP posts:

We have Xmas lights from last one still on and Xmas tree grows in a pot outside. I am planning to put some decorations later on.

NoUsernamesILike · 08/09/2019 18:42

3rd week in November, I always start checking the lights/decorations around this time and then bam suddenly the whole house is decorated Grin🎄🎅

@One2Three4Five6 Couldnt have said it better, just do what makes you happy. Our celebrations start on 1st December and we do something Christmassy every day throughout December whether that's watching a film, baking christmas cookies, colouring a Christmas picture all depends what time we've got on that day. We love the build up to Christmas. The decorations come down new years eve and house back to normal for the new year.

PurBal · 08/09/2019 19:59

Sometimes advent starts in November so no problems there.

I want to push it back to Christmas eve though.

6th November, soon as Bon Fire Night is over and done with. Xmas Grin

We are exactly the same here, films, books, colouring, games, baking, closer to the day we do a FC visit at our local wildlife centre, then a trip around the local area to view all the lights.
I get out the snuggly blankets, the hot water bottles, the matching pyjamas.

The only difference is when our decs come down after, sometimes it's before we go back to work/school, but often not.
They come down when we have time/inclination.

Thehouseintheforest · 08/09/2019 22:13

The day the kids break up from school. However they don't come down until 12th night.. 5/6 th Jan

BobTheFishermansWife · 08/09/2019 22:16

Growing up it was tradition to do it the first weekend in December as my younger brothers birthday is the 25th November, and tradition is birthdays first.
Now, I do it on the 16th December as dps birthday is the 15th.

Cherrysherbet · 08/09/2019 22:17

Last week in November.

DustyMaiden · 08/09/2019 22:17

Any time in December but after all shopping and wrapping is complete. Otherwise I feel it is mocking me.

Janleverton · 08/09/2019 22:20

The last day of school so around the 20th. Take them down in New Year’s Eve.

Real tree though and most other decorations are just lights and holly/ivy.

LaMarschallin · 08/09/2019 22:21

Yesterday. 🎄 whoop

Drabarni · 08/09/2019 22:26

This year it will be between the 15th and 18th.
We usually do it around this time, but this year I'm doing quite a lot, I hope. I like a Santa's grotto, dh and rest of family like more subdued and matching, boring farts. I put them up, they take them down again.
Usually take them down New Years day.

Parker231 · 08/09/2019 22:26

They go up the weekend before Christmas and come down the day before New Years Eve. Not a fan of having them up too long.

cricketmum84 · 08/09/2019 22:30

DH insists on first weekend of December. I would put them up now if he would let me 😂

Cannot wait for the twinkly lights!!!

SunshineAngel · 08/09/2019 22:30

Traditionally it was after my dad's birthday which is mid-December, as it made him feel that a day was about him before it became all about Christmas.

Now, I think any time in December is fair game.

Although, we're doing the whole house up at the moment, and won't be entertaining over Christmas, so the temptation for just doing cards and candles this year is totally there. Plenty of decs to be had elsewhere!

3boysandabump · 08/09/2019 22:33

1st December.

My birthday is nov 28th so wouldn't want them up before that.

They also come down on the 28th December because it's my sons birthday the following day.

Steamfan · 08/09/2019 22:35

First weekend in December!

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 08/09/2019 22:42

Growing up, it was after my Nan's bday (13th December), but lately I've been so disorganised that it's been a couple of days before Christmas, or Xmas eve if particularly bad Blush

This year it will be different. Again. I'd go for first weekend in December if all goes well!

HerkyBaby · 08/09/2019 22:55

My Christmas Planner and Wall Calendar tell me that this year my Christmas decorations including 4 trees are going up in the last weekend of November. There is quite enough to do in December.

MosquitoInAJamJar · 09/09/2019 04:48

My DM bday is 21st Dec so as children we were never allowed decs up before this time, but they came down on twelfth night.

Now they go up the first weekend of December.

kissmelittleass · 09/09/2019 05:47

Yes of course you can 🎅🏼 that's when I always put mine up.
I often see houses decorated once Halloween is over the last few years

autumnboys · 09/09/2019 05:58

Advent Candle and calendars from the start of December, then usually a tree & everything else in the middle of the month. You do what makes you happy!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/09/2019 09:30

Never before the 1st, and will often depend (esp. now we have Gdcs) on whether anyone's coming to visit or stay.
Last year we put up the tree etc. in the first week of Dec. - earlier than usual - since relatives who, live a long drive away were coming for the annual present-swap.

Nothing comes down until 6th Jan - January is dreary enough anyway. Our real tree always lasts well since it goes in a big bucket of wet gravel, topped up often, after dh has sliced a bit off the bottom of the trunk so it can take up water.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/09/2019 09:33

Normally about the 13th, but if I've not gone into labour Dec 1st I have warned DH the tree is going up! I do NOT want to be coming home with newborn twins and doing it, he won't do it right and 4 yo wouldn't forgive us for foregoing it.
