Can I get away with putting my Christmas decorations up the last week of November? I can never wait!

Advent candles, book advent calendars and Christmas DVDs on 1st Dec.

Wreath on door last Sunday of Advent.

Christmas tree on Christmas Eve.

claireymrsd · 09/09/2019 09:49

We don't put ours up until the weekend after my husband's birthday which is on 6th December.

Seems to be a lot later than most people these days, but that's what works for us!

Floralnomad · 09/09/2019 09:51

We put ours up the first weekend in December , last year we were waiting for an extension to be finished and couldn’t put the tree up until December 20th and it was awful .

Jocasta2018 · 09/09/2019 09:55

Check the lights mid-November in case I need some more.
Decorations up on 22-23rd December and down again on New Years Day - have a party on New Years Eve and it seems more festive when the decorations are still up!
Last Xmas had flu so few decorations and got 'em down before Twelfth Night...

purplepoop · 09/09/2019 11:46

Last Sunday in November. Always!

JupiterJane · 09/09/2019 11:54

The first weekend of December, which happily is 30 Nov/1 December yay!

Bunnylady53 · 09/09/2019 12:01

We buy the tree on my birthday at the beginning of December & put the other decorations up the same day. I love Christmas but it’s in the shops too early. One year Asda had Christmas cards in August!

Sgtmajormummy · 09/09/2019 12:17

I’m not doing it at all this year! Mwahahaaaaaa!
Since I’m the only one that volunteers, I’ve opted out and it feels great.

But it’s usually Advent calendars from 1st December and decorations from 15th until Epiphany.

ysmaem · 09/09/2019 14:55

Last week in November here

hippy1952 · 09/09/2019 15:12

Christmas Eve for us! My granddaughter who has her birthday on Christmas Eve always puts the star on the tree!

Arrowfanatic · 09/09/2019 19:30

Whenever the first weekend is that DH isnt working. Sometimes its early in december, sometimes a week before.

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 09/09/2019 21:15

Ours go up whenever I can convince DH! Usually the last day of November/1st December. We always decorate the tree when the DC are at school and surprise them, they then take it in turns (although they both usually argue and both get a turn) at putting the star on top of the tree. We then put up stuff that they have made and other bits in the evening.

I absolutely adore Christmas and would have the decorations up earlier if DH would but the later the better for him.

DD1’s birthday is the 28th December and the plan was always to have the decorations down for her birthday but she (and DD2) both have my love of Christmas and she always wants to keep them up. We have birthday banners etc alongside the Christmas decorations. They usually get taken down around the 6th January.

I think I’m finally going to get round to some outside lights/some form of decoration for outside this year. I’ve been trying to find what I want for years but could never decide.

linentowel · 10/09/2019 07:37

1st December here.

EnglishRose13 · 10/09/2019 08:14

@LaMarschallin

Have you really put your tree up already?! I just can't believe it. 😂😂

CherryPavlova · 10/09/2019 08:19

In stages. Never before beginning of Advent.
Advent calendars from beginning of December along with wreaths for doors shortly afterwards, when I’ve made them. Advent candle ring from early on too. Crib goes up about a fortnight beforehand.
Then most things the weekend prior to Christmas. Tree, garlands, bowls of Lindt balls etc.

LaMarschallin · 10/09/2019 08:36

@EnglishRose13

I just can't believe it.

And you're right not to; I was being a bit facetious.

I'm actually a weekend-before-Christmas person. They come down on January 2nd as, to my mind, the whole thing is over and the decorations start looking a bit wilted and dusty.
We all just find it a bit more exciting than if they're up for ages. I know many people don't agree though.

Don't dehydrate from all the weeping with laughter now!

LaMarschallin · 10/09/2019 08:37

And, looking at CherryPavlova's post reminds me, the advent things go up on the 1st Dec, of course.

Parker231 · 10/09/2019 08:52

I love the Christmas decorations - traditionally we have always put them up the weekend school breaks up (even though DC’s are now at Uni) but I’m glad to get them put away in time for New Year Eves party. I like everything clean and tidy ready to start a new year.

Trewser · 10/09/2019 08:59

I always used to wait until the week before, but I increasingly feel a bit miserable doing that and also the week before is so busy i dont get a chance to enjoy them! So i think I'll do mine on aboit the 6th this year.

Dockray · 10/09/2019 09:11

House starts to be decorated the first weekend in Dec with more gradually added over the weeks. Trees are always put up on Christmas Eve, never before. Decorations stay up through to Twelfth night.

EnglishRose13 · 10/09/2019 09:12

@LaMarschallin

I was 99% sure you were joking, but you just never know with Mumsnet. I think the earliest I've known is October.

I'm some time during the first week, and then I take them down on New Year's Day.

LaMarschallin · 10/09/2019 09:14

I should have put a smilie Smile

Dandelion1993 · 10/09/2019 09:19

First weekend in December here.

sue51 · 10/09/2019 09:22

The sunday before christmas day then they stay up till 12th night.

December2019 · 10/09/2019 09:22

Usually some point in December when I can be arsed lol
I get really sick of them though not a fan of glitter at all
