I absolutely love Mahalia Jackson’s Christmas album. Her version of Sweet Little Jesus Boy is amazing. I’m not at all religious but her voice is/was incredible.

Another one that gets played to death is the It’s a Holiday Soul Party album by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. It has all the Christmas favourites and is very upbeat. Both are on Amazon Music

Sorry, just saw that you mentioned Spotify. They are on there too

My DH introduced me to the Christmas Hippopotamus song last year. It will now be a staple on my playlist.

70isalimit I didn't even know Ronan Keating covered it... YUK! I won't be adding that to my list! Haha

I quite like either instrumental music or traditional carols - particular favourites are the Carol of the Bells and Troika.

When my DDs were small I used to start playing Christmas CDs in the car on 1st December and the first song on their favourite CD was Walking in the Air (Aled Jones) so that really reminds me of the start of their excitement for Christmas.

My sing-a-long favourite is Must be Santa by Bob Dylan.

Ooh some nice suggestions there.
Shamelessly just placemarking.

Oooh I have loads . I have a soul Christmas playlist, a folky one, traditional, carols/classics, swinging Christmas.

Love a good Christmas playlist.

My guilty pleasure is that song 'one more sleep' by Leona Lewis I think

Best folky tune Joni Mitchell 'River

Best Soul tune 'Merry Christmas Baby' Otis Redding

Anything by Ella Fitzgerald

Bon Jovi , Please come home for Christmas or Bruce Springsteens version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town

80s Christmas - Last Christmas by Wham of course

Also have a soft spot for Coldplay 'Those Christmas Lights'

Billydessert · 09/09/2019 12:39

Must be Santa, Bob Dylan
Mele Kalikimaka, Bing Crosby
Ring Out Solstice Bells, Jethro Tull
The Wassail Song, Chas and Dave...to name but a few. A few years ago I made a 5 hour christmas mega mix and am still feeling rather pleased with myself BlushGrin

The Barenaked Ladies released a Christmas album “Barenaked for the Holidays”. Some covers but also some new ones. Also like their song called “Adrift” on a different album. It just reminds me of Christmas.

“Something about December” by Christina Perri
And “white wine in the sun” by Tim Minchin.

“A New York Christmas” by Rob Thomas

I have my playlists on Deezer and spent a lot of time creating them.
I basically have most Christmas ‘pop’ songs, carols and stuff from Christmas albums. I also got quite a lot of inspiration from Christmas film soundtracks. I scoured Christmas carol albums for music I hadn’t heard before but liked. A few favourites though:

Must be Santa - Bob Dylan (I’m desperate to be at a party when this is played and I can dance (or jump around 😀).
Troika
Michael Buble’s Christmas album
Phil Spector ‘A Christmas Gift for You’ album
Christmas all over Again - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
The Nutcracker
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - Darlene Love
All Alone On Christmas - Darlene Love
