I have 3 nephews age 5-6 and stuck for ideas! I have no idea what boys this age are into so any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hi, my DS will be 6 at Christmas, his main present is a Nintendo Switch (maybe ask if they are getting similar, you could give them games/vouchers for it?)

Other than that he LOVES Lego, football (so any football related clothes, footballs, nets etc would go down well) he loves power rangers at the minute aswell so will get him some mini figures. He also likes colouring and at the minute really into non fiction books with subjects like, '1000 facts about sharks' and 'worlds fastest cars.'

We also recently got DS junior monopoly and guess who (for rainy days in the summer hols) and they've gone down very well.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 01/09/2019 14:56

What kind of budget do you have in mind and do you have any idea what they're into?

Otter46 · 01/09/2019 14:59

My son is nearly 5. He’s really into magformers, a magnetic toy where you fit the bits together to make a shape etc.

Tamtam86 · 01/09/2019 15:06

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

The only things I know for sure they are still into are football (and sports generally) and wrestling, one of them is into animals... I'm sure there is more that I'm forgetting and now I'm feeling like a bad aunt!!

I usually spend about £15

Legos and maybe a skateboard as he's been asking for one for a year. Skateboard will be a second hand one though as I think he'll lose interest very quickly.

Tamtam86 · 01/09/2019 15:26

oh and they are all into superheroes too...

Small LEGO or Playmobil sets might be of interest.K'nex is something ds started to get into at that age, also Zoobs

However, those are all construction toys which are great if dc like those but if they don't then it's a fail. I think I'd ask the parents for a steer Smile.

If there are any dinosaur fans this Robosarus might be a hit. It's slightly over budget although IMO while Wicked Uncle is good for ideas sometimes the items will be cheaper elsewhere so it's worth checking other sites.

Other ideas: board games, hexbugs, hot wheels, remote control cars, magic sets, some of those "gross science" type kits, Marvel/DC super heros, box set of books, character pajamas, bath toys.

I have boys both similar ages. They are getting bikes but smaller things around your budget I would choose

Dobble (great little game)
Bop It
Art stuff
Lego
Swords or dress up type things
Magic set
Any type of construction set
Army toys - soldiers and tanks
Hot wheels

Junobug · 01/09/2019 15:53

Yes to dobble if they don't have it! It's a great game. Don't worry about the junior one, my 4 year old could play it easily enough. I'm going to get my 7 year old Rush Hour this year.
Lego always goes down well. Anything that they can make, so science kits, marble runs, craft kits.

Chilledout11 · 01/09/2019 16:48

Meant to say that you can get motors for Lego so if they already have plenty then it might be a good addition (on the Lego website)

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 01/09/2019 17:42

My almost 5yr old wants everything in the smyths toys catalogue but then he is a kid whatever you touch in the shop I love that can you buy it - even bleach :) bloody kid

In reality he has asked for ninjago Lego and a fitbit kids watch apparently his leapfrog one is for babies. (We do lots of walking so he is into steps and his brother has a Garmin kids)

ritzbiscuits · 01/09/2019 18:13

I'd find out what 'characters' they're into.

My DS loves Ninjago and Mario, so would be thrilled with anything to do with those. HM sell good character t shirts/pjs - would recommend the 6-8 size for a 5-6 yo.

Stapelberg · 01/09/2019 18:29

Wow! I wonder if I'm doing something wrong?! I've been reading the threads and it looks as if my son is a bit (a lot) different to other 6 year olds!!
He plays outside all day, climbing trees, finding bugs, collecting snail shells, digging holes on the beach and making garages for his toy cars and trucks...
I struggle to get him in the house at night.
That said, I'm very much a limited screen time mum! He gets to watch 15 minutes tablet before supper and oh, we don't have a TV in the house!
Best gifts for this one would be books on bugs, bugs watching tools new wellies! 🤣 🤣

Symptomless · 01/09/2019 18:32

Say what now?

Tamtam86 · 01/09/2019 18:58

Thank you so much for all these suggestions, I have so many good ideas now and think they will love pretty much everything you guys have mentioned! Smile

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 01/09/2019 19:04

You're getting them the snail shells aren't you? @Tamtam86 Wink.

Redwinestillfine · 01/09/2019 19:21

Dinosaur obsessed here! If they like them his most played with toy is a tub of dinosaurs my sister got for him two years ago. They go everywhere with him!

Otter46 · 01/09/2019 19:39

Also my son (nearly 5) got really into junior scrabble and games like BINGO. I think he likes the rules and he can win fair and square!

Drogonssmile · 01/09/2019 19:53

DS1 will be 6 in October and won't be happy until he has every LEGO set ever made in the world. So, LEGO! (He won't be getting every Lego set btw) Shock

MeMeMeYou · 01/09/2019 19:58

My 6yo loved getting walkie talkies for his birthday.

He also likes the games dobble, uno and pizza party. And top trumps.

He loves all of the imaginext sets related to batman and super heroes.

Lego.

Playmobil

AnnieSaxophone · 01/09/2019 19:59

This is so helpful! I’m getting mine a few small things as well as a main present. I’m going to get my 5 year old a big box of marbles!

JewelTheft · 01/09/2019 20:06

My 6 year old loves the captain underpants and dog man books, horrible histories, Lego, cars, any outdoor games, I can second dobble that's already been mentioned (we have the normal one plus a star wars version that he loves), spirograph and any fact books about animals, space or cars

Equimum · 01/09/2019 20:12

Lego is usually my go-to for boys of this age.

Bluewavescrashing · 01/09/2019 20:14

Micro scooter, v tech watch, lego clock. His sister is having a go kart and he says he wants a lazy version he doesn't have to peddle, but I think he's too heavy for the battery type cars.

Mamapop1 · 01/09/2019 21:49

Lego is huge at the minute as is anything marvel based (or combine the 2 and get Lego marvel sets!)
