Wreck would they do a colonoscopy at his age? My bloods always came back ok too.

WreckTangled · 02/10/2019 12:38

I don't know. I assume he would have to be put to sleep to have it done. I know the paeds waiting list is almost a year so I'm annoyed it's being delayed. Once these bloods are back I'm going to ask them to refer but if they say no I'm not sure what I can do apart from complain to the practice manager 🤔

Maseandmum · 02/10/2019 12:48

Wreck I had no blood in stool, or sick. It came and went..as I got to about 17/18 then it got worse and happened more often. I also had quite bad acid reflux, was tired a lot, sore joints etc. When they did an ultrasound they found I had a tumour on my liver (not cancerous..but big enough to cause discomfort), they then sent me for an MRI and a small part of my ileum was infected. It took years and years to get a diagnosis though..it’s draining.

WreckTangled · 02/10/2019 12:52

Thank you. Hopefully he doesn't have anything like that but it's not normal and so I'm going to fight and fight until I get an answer. Having him sobbing and wrenching on the toilet (because he pooed himself again) is not something he should have to go through Angry

Maseandmum · 02/10/2019 13:28

Wreck definitely fight for it..it’s horrible to go through pain and have no idea why. Especially when everyone’s saying you’re fine and you know somethings not right. I hope you get the answers you need..poor lad

Have you kept a food diary, Wreck? Something clearly isn't right, poor kid. Is it worth trying the FODMAP diet to see if it brings any relief in the interim?

When DD was a baby, the GP refused to countenance that she had a problem, just kept treating the symptoms. Then we ended up in children's A&E when she was 4 months' old as she stopped taking milk, end of. Paediatrician listened, prescribed lactose-free milk and she was a new baby really quickly. Point being, GPs can be very poor at helping. Can you see another one?

We've done a week dairy free and a week gluten free. I've kept four weeks good and poo diary. Typical for three and a half weeks he was fine and it was only this weekend gone he had symptoms again. I have found any pattern, he's fine for weeks (no constipation) then suddenly has tummy pain and diarrhoea for days on end. Rashes/spots/tummy ache come and go no matter what

NoWordForFluffy · 02/10/2019 14:00

Try the FODMAP then. It may throw a curve ball into the mix.

I’ve done the FODMAP diet and it really helped me.

WreckTangled · 02/10/2019 15:26

Ok will google. Thanks!

NoWordForFluffy · 02/10/2019 16:02

Apparently onions can be really bad. And tomatoes. Things that you'd think of as safe!

Hmm he does eat a lot of tomatoes but as I said there's nothing in particular that sets him off?

NoWordForFluffy · 02/10/2019 16:50

Could be build up more than eat, have immediate effect. It's not always that simple with an intolerance.

Wreck tomatoes are a trigger for me. As is stress. It's a vicious cycle as well. Stress triggers it, then I get stressed when I have an episode.

WreckTangled · 02/10/2019 17:59

He has school dinners and he's 6. I don't think there's anything he only eats occasionally he eats so much though. He gets spots which are individual and seem to last ages but there'll be one or two on his tummy, knee, face and then he gets a pinprick rash on is chest which only lasts a couple of days

Interesting about tomatoes. He loves tomatoes and eats loads of them including pasta sauce

Would the GP refer you to the dietician instead of the paediatrician? You might be able to get some allergy tests done.

WreckTangled · 02/10/2019 19:19

Thanks. We're in no position to go privately unfortunately or I would. The only thing going for me is I've worked in general practice and now in the community so at least I know the system Grin

WreckTangled · 02/10/2019 19:21

Not sure. Our dietitian's are pretty good so worth a try if they won't refer to paeds.
