So this year I have decided to make a Christmas cake.

I have never made one before. I have seen some recipes online but as I’ve never made one before, I was hoping for your recommended recipes please 😋

I use Nigella's in the Christmas book but I dump the marmalade and go large on treacle. You need to take a long time to cook it and wrap the tin in layers of paper. Staple it, don't try and tie it on.

I’ll go with Nigella too , I love the Black Cake
It has prunes in , soaked in Marsala ( I think ) but I can’t find the recipe on line
It’s in How to be a domestic goddess , and it’s delicious

No no no.
It has to be Delia.

I use the Delia recipe - but I alter it to use caster sugar , only sultanas no raisins or currants , loads more cherries , mixed nuts and Amarretto not sherry .

It's lighter , sweeter and delicious .

But there have been loads of comments about the timing if you use the original recipe , it is way too long a cooking time .

I love making a Christmas cake but it doesn't all get eaten, I have ended up taking half to my parents .

Spend time lining the tin, put the paper round the outside too (either brown paper or newspaper) tied with string .

Soak the fruit well and weigh it all in advance .
Enjoy Xmas Grin
