New baubles for our tree

I splashed out on a gorgeous Balsam Hill tree last year, leaving no money to buy new decorations to put on it Blush

So this Christmas I'd love some new decorations to dress it. Please tell me where I can buy beautiful baubles - even better if they're a bargain!

Oddly, have a look in Wilkos as soon as they get their Christmas stock in. They have surprisingly lovely things.

NerosFiddle · 13/08/2019 16:13

Matalan last year had some lovely stuff.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 13/08/2019 16:53

Great, thankyou. When does the stock generally start coming in does anyone know? I don't want to find 'out of stock' on something that I take a shine to!

We have a tradition that the tree goes up on 1st Dec and on that day we go to our local 'Christmassy' garden centre and choose a new bauble each. It marks the start of Christmas.

We've built up a big collection of really lovely decorations quite quickly doing this, and I hope it will be something that is remembered.

Obviously that isn't going to work if you have literally nothing and want a quick fix matching set.

The Range and M&S. Love their baubles! I like winter wonderland theme and the Range last year was brilliant for this.

BakewellGin1 · 13/08/2019 22:10

Watching for ideas as currently tree gets decorated in lots of reds/golds with tarten ribben and many child decorations collected over the years.. some traditional wooden, some more recent such as disneys chip and dale etc... started the tradition when DS10 was 3 and will carry on the new bauble per year with Baby DS

Leftiefterson · 13/08/2019 22:13

Garden centres usually have lovely decorations. I’ve had some from lovely baubles from the white company and m&s. I collect baubles from around the world. I do love a Christmas tree.

I usually get a real tree each year but I’ve got a young dd and I’m worried about pine needles so have been looking at Balsam Hill. The one I want because I have such high ceilings is £850! Are they worth it OP? Do they look real?

girlywhirly · 13/08/2019 22:16

Keep an eye on TKMaxx as well, you may be lucky and find something.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2019 22:23

Search Gisela Graham on Google / eBay. There's loads of lovely ones in her designs.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 13/08/2019 22:26

There's a lovely tradition reefedsail and something I will definitely do from now on.

Leftiefterson I am absolutely delighted with our tree it was such a good buy. It looks so full and the lights are gorgeous on it (I got one pre lit with warm lights) I would definitely recommend. But wait for the sale, they'll have one in November it's madness to pay full price for them!

I had forgotten about Tkmaxx so I'll keep an eye out there and The Range as well as Wilkos etc. Thanks everyone.

Well... I have a bit of a bauble habit.
Started when my Father came home with some vintage ones from a flea market in the early 70's.
I still have some 70's ones from Woolworths and 80' ones from Harrods.

My 90's obsession was tin figures from Accessorise, then in the 00's hummingbirds from Habitat and gorgeous things; mainly bird related from the Conran shop and Liberty's.

More recently it's been TK Maxx but so hard to get enough of a type for big trees. John Lewis was excellent last year.

Sounds a lot but we do three trees the biggest being around 20 feet.

All home grown, I dread to think how much they would cost to buy in!

We have a new tree this year from The National Tree Company, an American firm but some garden centres in UK sell them and also on amazon. It is replacing the previous National Tree company tree that we had for 16 years before it started to look a bit tatty, even with our cat climbing it for a couple of years. They are not as expensive as Balsam Hill, but are lovely when decorated. The new tree is slightly taller and a slim one, with real-feel tips, Bayberry Spruce is the model. I got it in the January sales from a garden centre online at half price. Here’s hoping it will last another 16 years!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/08/2019 14:33

Oh wow stayathomegardener we have just one tree, I think I'd keel over with the stress of having to decorate another 2 in our house!! Your baubles sound fab, I'm looking forward to browsing the shops when the Christmas stuff comes in Smile

@LifeInAHamsterWheel The Range!! They have so much choice its ridiculous SIL & I get excited for the Christmas stock coming in 😂 usually after halloween xx

More unique pieces garden centres or similar BUT if you live within an hours drive of birkenhead Inspirations wholesale is amazing at Christmas they sell EVERYTHING that you can get at garden centres so cheap just add 10% on at the till if you don't have a business xx

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 14/08/2019 14:56

A recent treat has been going into Liberty London and buying three or four every year. They are just beautiful. I still have quite a few baubles from my first proper adult xmas tree, which were from Heals. We (the cat) always break a few every year though, so I just add a few new ones each year. We still have a fake John Lewis tree which is now 20 years old, but it was £100 when new, so probably quite expensive at the time.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/08/2019 17:41

This year's John Lewis baubles are online to view, but you can't buy them yet. There're some lovely ones!

IamChipmunk · 15/08/2019 19:29

I got some nice baubles last year at b&q suprisingly!
And also second the Range and any nice big garden centres always have lovely ones.
If you are anywhere near Leeds I especially like Tong garden centre, Carr Gate and Garforth!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 15/08/2019 23:27

Well I spent the last hour drooling over browsing the magnificent selection of baubles on the John Lewis site Smile What gorgeous baubles! I absolutely will be ordering some when they become available. I also saw a fab tree topper. Can't wait to have the tree up this year!

Have you looked in Homebase? Nearer Christmas they often have a pretty big range of really nice stuff.

Also pretty much any garden centre. Xmas Smile

Fstar · 18/08/2019 10:34

If you are looking for some plain baubles as fillers, amazon have loads in stock now, all different colours. Also poundstrechers do some nice baubles

BelindasGleeTeam · 18/08/2019 10:37

If you're in the north west and haven't been to Bents for Xmas tree deca then you NEED too. Amazing. Not cheap, but beautiful.

We also allow the kids to buy one or two a year to add to our or their mini trees. It's a lovely thing when we get the boxes out every year
