Make up brands for 13 & 14 year olds - what do they like?

This is actually for autumn birthdays but I need help from all those who are so good at Christmas shopping!

My two nieces will be 13 and 14; they apparently both want makeup or “stuff for nails” for their birthdays but my BIL doesn’t know what. Their Mum is quite ill so I can’t really hassle her and would rather just find something myself.

Can anyone advise on popular brands for this age? My own DD has no idea. Please and thank you

Urban decay
Morphe

I would recommend morphe, they do so many different awesome eye shadow palettes (I don't know if she's into youtubers but a popular palette is the James Charles Morphe palette at the mo) But also two faced is cool and quirky and very popular.

James Charles Morphe palettes

autumnleaves15 · 06/08/2019 19:27

Urban decay is quite popular but I think there are other brands which are more attractive and better value. Too Faced do some great make up in nice packaging - peach, chocolate and gingerbread scented pallettes.

I second Morphe whose eyeshadow palettes are cheaper but great quality.

Debenhams and John Lewis price match the first two brands so keep an eye out.

Try cult beauty and beauty bay as well. I'm not sure if Morphe is sold in shops anywhere. I bought mine online.

Nails - nails inc are good and they do nice sets. You could always just buy a mixture of Rimmel ones with little nail art tools and some glitters and make up a little hamper.

Mine use maybelline, or boots 7. They will probably want quantity over quality at that age

I have many nieces, this is what they like

Tarte (qvc do sets)
MAC
Too Faced (debenhams sell some anf if your lucky tk maxx)
Revolution eyeshadows are fab and lots to choose from, normally superdrug have 3 for 2 or their own site do free mystery bags now and then
Beauty Bay have fantastic palettes just now, 2 big ones for 40 quid, the bh cosmetics on this site is brilliant too www.beautybay.com/l/beautybay/palettes/?f_filter_paletteSize=42+Pan

NYX is another good brand sold at superdrug and boots

My DD is 12 and is getting into makeup. She's having the James Charles palette for her birthday from Morphe. She doesn't know and will be delighted!

She also likes Revolution from Superdrug.

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 06/08/2019 19:40

Thank you! I used to be a fan of Too Faced and Urban Decay myself (in the olden days when I had more motivation!) so am delighted they are still around.

I heard of James Charles on here too; will have a look at all these Smile

Can’t go wrong with Morphe. Benefit is also good (especially their highlighters) and fun packaging. Chanel is the best eyebrow pencil according to one of my DDs and her friends.
I’m going to disagree with stucknoue
It’s all about the quality and brand names with mine.

Sunshine1239 · 06/08/2019 20:18

I agree. Its defo the brand, esp if giving as s gift

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/08/2019 20:28

Before you invest find out if they require Cruelty Free Products .
It's easy enough to find out online

Teenagers now are far more environmentally aware than before

Charlottejade89 · 08/08/2019 11:16

Nyx cosmetics is good too

Hoppinggreen · 08/08/2019 11:19

My dd mostly likes Glossier and Jefree star, both only online
She also likes Benefit

sideorderofchips · 08/08/2019 13:36

Mine uses mua or make up Revolution

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 10/08/2019 13:32

Oh, some more ideas - thank you! I am quite enjoying looking through all these brands and products Smile
