Hello all!
Exactly that, what has everyone bought so far and who for?! It’ll be good to get some inspiration and considering I’ve usually hated Christmas, last Christmas I loved the build up to it and the actual day itself and I am already enjoying mooching the sales looking for Christmas gifts for this year!
Happy Christmas!

Like Bakewell, I always aim to be done by December 1st, but have never yet achieved that!
So far I am doing well though - DH has; shirts x 3, jumper, socks, wine, only a case of beer and he's done. Kids (30s) have most of their stocking fillers; HP sweets, socks/tights, car paraphernalia, just some LUSH bits and scratch cards to add. DSS has a Timberland jumper and t shirt, 3 pack of Jack Wills boxers. DSD (I find her harder to buy for), has a perfume. I've picked a book for each but not bought those yet, the selection boxes as per tradition can't be bought yet, but their pets have antler shaped chews and Christmas toys stashed on top of the spare room wardrobe.
Mum has a Christmas jumper, some unusual mixers for gin, also socks. Aunt and uncles have novelty plant ties, cousin's cat has a snowman treat dispenser. SIL has a Pandora Christmas charm I got last week in their sale. DNephew5 has a sequin dinosaur t shirt, a Christmas jumper, 'The Nights Before Christmas' book, a toy tractor, some Christmas craft stuff, some smiggle pencils, and a Toy Story jigsaw. (Jumper, book and craft stuff mostly for my own enjoyment to be given on family holiday before Christmas).
Younger DNeices have craft sets; sun catchers, sewing kits, paint-your-own windchimes, and a Christmas headband each (bought in January). DNiece 20 has a make up brush set, a HP niffler toy, and some nail polish.
Friends have more of the plant ties, gardening gloves, tea towels, wine. Colleagues x 4 all have socks, their dogs x 5 all have antler chews.
DDog has quite the selection of toys and treats - including Santa's sleigh (full of dog treats, obvs) complete with several reindeer, tastelessly executed in rawhide Blush. She also has a totally unnecessary new coat. I must stop buying for her (but I keep eyeing up a bowl with stars on in the local pet shop, and she really does need a new bed, and also, Christmas jumpers...) Hmm

I got in the January sale for Β£3 each:
Wooden marble run
Magnetic tiles
Remote control train (brio imitation)
Small Duplo set

From random Argos sales:
Toy campervan Β£5 (same as John Lewis one at Β£20)
Baby Born interactive bath half price
Playmobil plane half price

Pack of Thomas minis and a couple of Disney Cars diecasts half RRP in B&M
Box set of Divergent books third off at Book depository.

I've also got main birthday present for the DC that is mid December.

Oh oh, I also got a selection of gorgeous retro Christmas paper form Paperchase January sale, Christmas Gap pyjamas and I bought new retro tree lights with some birthday vouchers. Still got three kids main gifts to buy though but will wait until nearer to Christmas for those.

Luxplus · 07/08/2019 05:24

@MrsElf you sure have to buy for loads Shock

HUZZAH212 · 07/08/2019 06:37

Ooh Christmas thread! I'll have DGS to buy for this year and he'll be 5mths. Any good suggestions anyone? I'm out of the game on the things for very little ones to buy these days.

OhTheRoses · 07/08/2019 06:41

Crackers and christmas napkins, oh and paper, in the January sales. Also some mugs, pencils and stationery for stockings also in Jan. Will order Christmas cards when schools go back. TBH I don't have many to buy for and usually do the oldies when M&S has 20% off in October/November and the grown up DC in December.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/08/2019 07:22

What's your budget, @HUZZAH212?

A few months after Christmas he'll be ready for a Jumperoo if you have the funds? You can pick them up on local selling sites quite often too.

PinkDaydreams · 07/08/2019 08:12

@whatthewhatthewhat well, I must confess, did buy some and put it away but somehow I drank it Confused

I love this thread, good to see so many of you have a good hall of presents already.
I’ve nearly finished my one year old nephew, he’s got a t shirt, two books, coloring crayons, wooden bus, building blocks I just need to get him a coloring book. My little one has a birthday bear to Christmas so I’ve bought all sorts but not sure what to give for what. He’s got loads of books, a few mellisa and Doug wooden cars I bought in January from tkmaxx at bargain prices, he’s got new Christmas clothes, again bought in the sale. I haven’t got much more to get for him to be honest.
The rest of the family I have to buy for but am waiting for the Lisa Angel sale and the body shop as I got some really nice gifts last year Grin

For wine I wait for the Sainsbury's double up on Nectar points in November. Bloody love that! πŸ˜‚

Luxplus · 07/08/2019 09:07

@HUZZAH212 My dd received this one parents.kskids.com/parentdetail.php?pid=74&lang=en in baptism gift and it was a huge success. She absolutely loved it and used it until she was well over 2.

MrsElf · 07/08/2019 10:25

@Luxplus that’s nearly everyone that I buy for, thankfully.
I probably do buy for more than I have to - I’m a soft touch who can’t resist a bargain! (See antler chews on a buy 4 for 3, dogs are about 1/3 of my present recipients). Doesn’t help that DH has 5 siblings, all with large families, though. I have a spree in hobbycraft/range in January, usually get umpteen little Christmas craft sets for about Β£1 each. We mostly meet up before Christmas, and the kids open their presents there and then, so the Christmas theme is a bonus.
I also have cards, bags and wrapping paper in abundance. Like user27495824 I got some gorgeous wrap in Paperchase in January.
I just have 6 x bottles wine, 8x boxes biscuits, 2 x bottles gin, 1 x pack of beer, LUSH, scratch cards, and some nice things [cudgels brain] for DSD. And to buy yet more scissors, and do all the wrapping in November of course!

IAintWroteNoPoetry · 07/08/2019 11:11

I want to cut down who I buy for this year. I’m thinking just DM, DF, DH, DMIl, DFIL, SIL, BILs, Disis’ and then DC. But DC will only be 3 months old so I won’t be buying much.

MamaRaisingBoys · 07/08/2019 11:18

Everything I’ve got so far I’ve picked up in the sales, I’ve not paid full price for anything

DS(4)
Paw Patrol frustration
Toy Story puzzle
Spider-Man motorbike & figure
Treasure chest & jewels

DS(2)
Toy Story busy book

2 Disney Princess dolls for dneices(3&5)

Playmobil spirit set for dsis(6)

That’s it so far, I’ve got so much more to get and both my kids birthdays between now and Xmas

MrsElf · 07/08/2019 11:57

Unwrapped alcohol in this house either vanishes within the week, or I hide it so well I can't find it - there are several bottles of Aldi champagne somewhere that I hid last year, which I'm hoping will mature well. Even my spring cleaning didn't bring them to light!

Stompythedinosaur · 07/08/2019 14:49

I've got a set of three unopened Lego pop stars sets from our local buying page that will be for dd1. Also a bunch of Smiggle bits that I got in their sale and will probably go in the dc's stockings.

I also stash tiny things for their advent calendar throughout the year ( from party bags, perfume samples, that sort of thing).

CocoLoco87 · 07/08/2019 15:15

I've started writing ideas down for my 2. But today I remembered that their birthdays are between now and Christmas and 7 of their cousins have birthdays between now and christmas too. And now I feel like crying with the expense of it all Sad we've got really generous family members and it's quite hard when you can't reciprocate to their kids in the same way.

PinkDaydreams · 07/08/2019 17:06

@MamaRaisingBoys you’ve bought a busy book, my little one will be 2 at Christmas, do you think he’s old enough for one or not yet?

OP posts:
BikeRunSki · 07/08/2019 17:09

Cards and Christmas patterned socks in the first week of Jan!

Bobble hats in the sports club colours, not a bargain but cheaper at a pop up stall than on line.

Toomanycats99 · 07/08/2019 17:12

Bought some slush puppie and Pringles socks from primark for oldest dd (12) and some rock painting pens for them both to share as they did that recently and loved it.

BikeRunSki · 07/08/2019 17:15

These bobble hats they are big, and you’ll almost undoubtedly find one for every sports team your child is interested in. Got one for DS in his archery club colours and one for dd in her cycling club colours]].

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/08/2019 18:03

I haven't bought anything yet but I'm quietly planning.

DS has his birthday in December (he'll be 20) he's hankering after an electric guitar . He gets money, some clothes , sweets . New PJs and robe .
So if he doesn't decide on the guitar he'll just get cash (his choice) he doesn;t like 'things'

DD gets a Beauty Advent (I buy the gifts bags and contents) which makes up part of her present pile . I'm going to Costco soon so if I see any Calvin Klein underwear I'll but some for her .
Then I'll start loooking for the Beauty Gifts .
She likes gifts vouchers to choose what she wants or she'll make me go into TopShop or Urban Outfitters and I buy it then to put away .

I'll start the presents in earnest in Nov and look at Black Friday . Then it's the last minute things in December (which is the nicer shopping , just pootling round )

CamdenTownie · 07/08/2019 19:35

I've bought 4 Emma Bridgewater mums for my brother and his gf, quite a bit of stuff in the boots 70% off sale and I also have a couple of things for dd14 that we're supposed to be for her birthday but I'm keeping back as I think she's got too much!

I'm looking for an Amazon Echo Dot, but I just missed it at Β£22 on prime day and now they are back to almost 50 quid, which I can't bring myself to pay so I'll have to wait for Black Friday / cyber Monday.

HairyToity · 07/08/2019 21:20

Nowt. I usually start in October. I have started a list though.

BakewellGin1 · 07/08/2019 22:31

Following this thread I've decided that when I return to work I need a spreadsheet to keep track of who we need to buy for and what to buy them... I LOVE being able to highlight them Green if I have them, Orange on Order and Red if nothing done with them yet Grin Anyone would think I had time on my hands but I like a list...
By October will have a present list, cards list, food shop list and by November a list of what we need for our week away at New Year

MamaRaisingBoys · 07/08/2019 22:59

@PinkDaydreams I’ve got the stuck on stories version (also available from the supermarket) because older ds has the originals and I find the character pieces too small for ds2 as he puts everything in his mouth.

They are good little story toys though for the price. When ds1 was younger he just liked matching the characters up to the story as I read to him, now he makes up stories with them using the mat. So definitely something that can grow with them even if he’s not too interested straight away
