Christmas tree lights: white or multicoloured??

I’ve been looking to buy a Christmas tree from a certain brand I’ve fallen in love with. I’d really like one with built in lights because for some reason putting the lights on the tree is the one job that fills me with rage and is bound to cause one of those pointless bickery arguments between me and Mr BoM.

However the ones with coloured lights are a lot more expensive in what is already an expensive tree! I have always have coloured lights though and don’t think white are as pretty or festive.

Convince me why white lights are a good thing!

White. Always white.

It’s July FFS Grin

I'm with you, white are just not festive in the same way as coloured, I'd never have white.

Celebelly · 07/07/2019 20:44

Pre-child me preferred white as I think it looks much more tasteful. Post-child me accepts that garish coloured lights are part of the joy of Christmas.

GlowWine · 07/07/2019 20:45

White. Always. But I'm forrin....

sue51 · 07/07/2019 20:49

Its July but white or clear. I have clear on my balsom hill tree and it looks great.

Maykid · 07/07/2019 20:51

I have 2 trees , one in the living room with white and one in the conservatory with coloured. Best of both worlds.

BabyofMine · 07/07/2019 20:52

I know it’s July but this is when the Christmas trees are on sale — probably BECAUSE it’s July. It’s a Balsam Hill tree I’m after btw!

Mine is pre-lit with warm white...some years I add a string of coloured lights, sometimes leave as is.

This is the tree I am thinking about — it’s actually “clear” and this one doesn’t even COME in multicoloured lights. I love the shape/style on this one so much though.

I much prefer coloured. White lights on trees remind me of displays in hotels or shops

Floralnomad · 07/07/2019 20:55

We have a BH Fraser fir with white lights and it is truly beautiful , my dh was not convinced that it would be worth the money but even he was impressed . We always had coloured lights before but I’m pleased we went with white .

Milicentbystander72 · 07/07/2019 20:56

I used to be a warm white purist. However in the last few years I've been favouring multi coloured.

I like to have warm white all over and a string of retro multi coloured lights swooping around. Lush.

Theimpossiblegirl · 07/07/2019 20:58

White lights can look lovely and wintery. My conservatory looks like Narnia at Christmas. In my living room I have warm white. My daughter has multicoloured in her room.
I don't care if it's July, I'll happily discuss Christmas.

REllenR · 07/07/2019 21:00

We love the colourful lights on the tree (and warm white outside). I like white ones in posh hotels but not so much in homes!

ExpletiveDelighted · 07/07/2019 21:02

Yes - the hotel or shop look is what I don't like about white lights. Our house is nothing like as pristine as a shop window or hotel foyer.

FredaFox · 07/07/2019 21:02

White white white

Coloured are fine for kids trees but white is So much more grown up I think

Fenellapitstop · 07/07/2019 21:03

There is nothing tasteful on my tree, we go real tree and as much coloured light and tacky bauble as it can take. Dinosaur baubles were this years addition

Pipandmum · 07/07/2019 21:07

I love coloured lights but don’t like the new LED lights which have such harsh colours. I liked my old ones which had pink in too.
We tend to have a big tree with twinkly white lights in the front bay in the dining room (which can be seen from living room) and in the back conservatory a smaller tree with pink and orange lights to match the decor in there. Best of both worlds!

If you want coloured lights :

Look at is as Cost Per Year . A good tree will last you years .
We had a horrible tree for 6 years or something (till I got fed up with it being so horrid and sent it to Tree Heaven) But even I could see it was fairly worth the money .. It was bought in a hurry before Christmas so we were limited as to what we could get delivered .

You are buying in a Sale so push the boat out and buy the tree you WANT .

What about QVC Christmas In July (25th) they often have a tree on there ( Santas Best or something )
Reviews for the non frosted trees are better .
They have trees that can alternate white/colour .

There may be similar lights on Balsam Hill.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/07/2019 06:29

We have warm white and I think they're lovely. The colour comes from the decorations.

The DC have coloured lights on their tree, however. But theirs also looks like Christmas threw up on it! 🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻😂😂

DandyLyon · 08/07/2019 06:40

Oh God now I want one of these! 🙈they look great

ValleyoftheHorses · 08/07/2019 06:45

White. We love our Balsam Hill

MsSquiz · 08/07/2019 06:51

We have warm white lights on our tree and fireplace garland.

I love coloured lights but I think they are harder to coordinate with decor (we have traditional red, green and gold colours)

The Balsam Hill things are amazing, our fireplace and bannister garlands were from there last year and they're gorgeous!

AuntieStella · 08/07/2019 06:54

We got one for my DMum - coloured lights, so lovely and festive
