Do you like this idea for someone alone at Christmas?

I have a colleague who is by choice alone, and perfectly jolly about it. The only thing she says she misses is the getting a present bit of Christmas- so in the January sales and for the first few months of the year (up until her birthday in July) once or twice a month, if she sees something she likes, she buys it , wraps it immediately and puts it a present box in her loft- then she forgets all about it until she opens them! I love this idea! It makes me want to do it for myself! What do you think?

I've had a few Christmas Days on my own now, and I've done something similar for a couple of years.

I don't buy major things, just little bits and pieces, Christmas stocking things really. Small boxes of chocolates, notebooks, nail varnish, little gadgets, miniature bottles of liqueurs, I wrap them up too.

Opening it all, usually with a glass of fizz to hand, breaks up the day a bit, and you can never have too much chocolate! Wink

This is genius!

Oh what a brilliant idea - I was on my own at Christmas in my early 30's for several years and this would have been great.

Trouble is - if I did it these days, I'd completely forget not only what things I'd bought (and end up buying them for myself twice) or, more likely, forget where I'd put them altogether Confused

haha I know what you mean!

I really want to try it for myself- I have always been fascinated/ slightly intrigued/excited about the idea of a Christmas alone - it's a little fantasy of mine- but not one I really talk about as it brings sadness to a lot of people and I don't want to be crass.

I kind of did something similar the year I chose to be alone at Christmas. I ADORED it (I honestly can't recommend it enough if you're more than happy with your own company).

Are you alone at Christmas and want to try it for yourself?
If so it’s not crass but if you are talking about doing in front of people who are alone it’s maybe a tiny bit crass

Sayyestothecake
Exactly- that's why I keep it to myself

What a great idea! I really wanted the Cath Kidston advent calendar last year but couldn't justify £40. I found it in the sales in a little independent shop for £15, can't wait to open it this year!

Someone on FB marketplace near me was selling an empty Liberty advent calendar- I did think about getting it and filling it for myself for next year!
