I haven’t bought my turkey yet, if I get a frozen one is there enough time for it to defrost?

I’ve got my big shop arriving from Ocado tomorrow, but planned to get a frozen turkey so didn’t include one as there wouldn’t be enough time to defrost. I’ve just remembered, so need to dash out and get one, is fresh my only option now? I need one big enough for 6 adults/teens and the inevitable buttys.

Leave it out today and it should be perfectly fine. We bought a frozen one yesterday and its currently sitting in the cool conservatory defrosting nicely. If you defrost it in the fridge, it probably won't be ready. No doubt someone will be alone to tell me that I'm minging and risking 60 types of food poisoning, but we do this every year. We are brining the turkey tomorrow and then cooking it on Christmas Day.

You might get an excellent deal on a fresh turkey now, anyway. Good luck!

Ours said 10 hours per kilo to defrost in the fridge.
We took him out yesterday to defrost to cook Christmas Eve afternoon.
If you got a similar size (4kg) now you could defrost to cook Christmas Day morning? Or a smaller one (we're big eaters and love the leftovers!)

I left mine to defrost in the fridge last year and it had hardly defrosted in the stated time. It is currently sitting in the utility now as I am not taking any chances of that happening again. I ended up submerging it in a bucket of cold water which had to be changed every 20 mins last year and I do not want to go through that drama again.

Thanks everyone, I couldn’t get a frozen one big enough but did find a fresh one - phew.

I have defrosted one in the loft before now...not as cold as the fridge but not warmish either
