How early do your kids wake up Christmas morning?

On a good day my girls wake at 6am. Last Christmas they were awake at 4:30am with the excitement of stockings on Christmas morning.
What time do you kids wake on the 25th?
Any tips to get mine to sleep later??

I’m thinking of keeping the stockings in my bedroom- it might give me an extra half an hour at least

Usually have to wake my 8 year old when the day is in double figures. Bliss.

4.30 Shock

DDs (4 and 7) sleep 7pm-7am, have done for years and I anticipate they'll wake up at their usual time on Christmas morning.

cliffdiver · 22/12/2018 19:44

How old are they?

Could you write them a letter from Father Christmas saying they must not get up before 6am?

Groovester · 22/12/2018 19:45

I am always first up!

TabithaBraithwaite · 22/12/2018 19:51

This year they are 9 & 4 yrs. The 9 year old is a terrible sleeper always has been, once awake in the morning will not go back to sleep. Both asleep in bed by 8pm.

I read somewhere to put a tree up where they can see, when the lights come on Santa has been. ( lights are on a timer).

One never to be forgotten Xmas morning g, DD woke about 3:30. Shortly afterwArds next door neighbours arrived home from their night out (younger than me and no children) and joined us both. They were as pissed as farts, but good fun. DD enjoyed playing with the "grown ups". I administered copious amounts of coffee (not to DD, she was about seven years old and already hyper).

My 8 year old and 6 year old boys both have gro clocks which are set to 6.45. They then know to play in their rooms until 7am every day of the week before they're allowed downstairs. Christmas Day is no different.

NotPennysBoat · 22/12/2018 20:06

9 and 4!?!? Tell them to stay in their rooms fgs!

TabithaBraithwaite · 22/12/2018 20:12

Obviously my mistake last year was putting their stockings on their beds. Too exciting to resist

We were up before 3am last year, and all kids presents open opened by 4.30!

This year, the stair door will be bolted and stockings delivered to our bedroom, so avoid the early realisation that ‘he’s been’.

Equimum · 22/12/2018 20:17

Just to add, DS1 was four and literally hysterical with excitement. He was not going back to bed!

Hopskipjumping · 22/12/2018 20:18

We were staying with my mum one Christmas and my mum and son came to wake me up. I reluctantly got out of bed, half way down stairs I asked the time and she replied 3:30am. I sent them all to bed but think my mum was more disappointed than my son

gamerchick · 22/12/2018 20:24

He doesn't. I'm always up hopping from foot to foot waiting for an acceptable time Grin

This year I'm not, just to see what time he gets up on his own.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 22/12/2018 20:25

Usually around 6/6.3. We live with my mum, sister and brother. So as a rule we wait till everyone is awake to open the presents under the tree, so When they wake we try to play it out as long as possible by making them open thier stocking present one at a time one after the other. It usually takes about an hour and by then everyone else is awake... 🤣🤣

SoyDora · 22/12/2018 20:26

They were 4 and 2 last year and got up at their normal time, 7am! If they get up too early this year they’ll be sent back to bed until morning. No way would I get up at 4am or anything ridiculous.

Bishalisha · 22/12/2018 20:27

We ‘seal’ the living room door with wrapping paper and put the stockings on the bed but I don’t put the stockings out until about 4/5 and if they’re awake the magic doesn’t happen

stridesy · 22/12/2018 20:28

We normally have to wake my 9 year old up. My dd is 2 so awake normally about 7.30 but still too young yet.

gluteustothemaximus · 22/12/2018 20:28

About 10am. Maybe later. 16, 8 and 2 year old.

Go to bed late, get up late. I appreciate not all children can hack that, but ours are all night owls.

Rogueone · 22/12/2018 20:28

I have always been quite tough. We won’t get up until after 7am and the youngest is awake. We have a large age gap so it’s worked out quite well 😂 when I was young me and my sisters would get up at 330 and open all our presents. My DC are not allowed to do that and we all have to be up to open them, they can peek to see if santa has been but that’s it

NoWordForFluffy · 22/12/2018 20:30

We've never had anything other than a normal time, so about 7am. However, this year they're (DD 5 and DS 4) at fever pitch, so I'm dreading what it may be this year!

Thirtyrock39 · 22/12/2018 20:31

I was never allowed to open anything before 6am and have done this with my kids too ...saying that I'm the one who struggles to sleep and usually awake before the kids
4am is still the middle of the night to me and they'd be hideously grumpy by lunchtime if they got up then

Fantasisa · 22/12/2018 20:32

I’ve always made mine wait until a decent hour, if one wakes we cuddle in our bed until 7am and then it is all go! They are tired enough from the term at school they don’t need to be ratty for Christmas Day!

My auntie used to wake my cousins up at 3am because she was too excited to wait!! Shock

KittyMcTitty · 22/12/2018 21:19

We have told our son last one out of bed opens the first present - he is so excited to be last!
