What's the best time for Christmas eve supermarket bargains

What time do the main supermarkets start their big reductions? My SIL has often found turkeys, etc at bargain prices and sticks them in the freezer and I'd like to do the same.

I’ve been wondering this too, so placemarking! Last year I thought Waitrose would have big discounts on Xmas Eve but it wasn’t actually till after Xmas!

Most of the time they don’t/ big ticket items are more order specific now so they aren’t left with tonnes of expensive stock to clear

I went to Tesco one year about 3pm and they were discounting heavily at that time. I bought a side of salmon for a fiver and a friend got a fresh turkey for £10. It was huuuge, her dh had to joint it befoe they could freeze it.

How long does a turkey last in the freezer?

KittenEsque · 22/12/2018 17:34

I got three organic turkeys in a Markie’s one Xmas eve for under a tenner each.

It was about an hour before closing. We went in for like carrots or something at the last minute and saw what was happening. I think the real bargain hunters were hoping the turkeys would drop under a £5 so had left the organic ones as still too dear.

That would have been about 2011 or 2012 I think.

My DSD used to work in Waitrose and they let the staff on shift have the turkeys so a lot of lurking customers were disappointed
