Been together nearly 3 months and not sure what we’re doing about presents - feels a bit soon and I don’t think he’s got loads of spare cash so when he asked what I’d like I just said him Blush and brushed it off. But I’ve got a feeling he still might so I’m going to get him a bottle of a whisky I know he likes just in case and a little something else but no idea what.

He loves music and cooking, isn’t at all materialistic and I really like him so don’t want to get it wrong!

You say he likes cooking. What type of cuisine? Maybe a couple of cookery books if he has them on his shelves or uses them to cook?

I love using cooking books as I can just post it the pages for the good recipients and my baking books are well thumbed.

Alcohol is a good fail safe and if he likes single malts (by the way there is nothing else worth drinking than a single malt) try a bottle of Yamazaki if you find or afford it. It's amazing

Either consumables (like the whisky) or one item for a collection (eg a record he wants if he's a record collector).

What about a nice whisky glass and some granite whisky stones?

As ever, it's the thought that counts. How about a wok? Yeah some are expensive but a bog standard plain steel one. They grow with you!

I'd definitely do an experience... even if it's a free or cheap one. For me, when you're newly dating, the promise of a lovely January date feels better than stuff.

Agree an experience you can do together in the new year is lovely idea, plus the whisky to open on the day.

Maybe a cooking class/workshop that would be fun to try together? Beer/whisky/wine tasting experience?

Thanks all, I went with whisky, a cookbook and a backup of a nice leather wallet - glad I did as he bought me two jokey (but brilliant) presents and a beautiful silver bracelet, was totally surprised but very pleased and also relieved I’d made an effort too!
