Am I a horrible parent for not buying the pooing unicorn?

5yo DD has asked Santa for (amongst other things but not loads) a rainbow poopsie. It's fifty quid. We could afford it but it's a huge amount of money for tatt.

I'm 99% sure I'm holding my ground but 1% of me is wobbling as we get closer to Xmas.

She's got everything else on her list and will get loads of other stuff on Xmas day from me and DH and her grandparents
(including some poopsie slime that I bought on impulse in Smyths tonight!)

Tell me I'm right not to buy it please....

Dont buy it

We havent for exactly the same reason as you its tat

Stormwhale · 18/12/2018 20:45

Dd hasn't asked for it from Santa, but expressed interest when she saw the advert. It was an instant no from me. I'm not paying £50 for a shitting unicorn. It is overpriced tat that she would get bored of in minutes. £50 is an obscene amount for such a shit toy.

SD1978 · 18/12/2018 20:46

It's a fifty pound slime making machine.......juts buy slime. That's what I told myself. And I still bought the fecking thing. Don't be like me.

Spudina · 18/12/2018 20:49

Don't buy it. Don't feel bad. It's over priced plastic tat that will be land fill in months. I've unapologetically told my two DDs that we won't be asking Santa for anything poop related. I've had enough of real stuff to deal with having children. Having fake stuff too, hell no. Good time to start having conversations about ocean plastic and looking after the planet OP.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 18/12/2018 20:52

I did buy it because that was one of the three things my daughter asked me for. She wanted the unicorn poopsie marbles and a torch. She loves slime!

TheABC · 18/12/2018 20:52

You can buy a singing, walking unicorn from sainsburys for £7.50 (we bought two last year and did unicorn racing on Christmas Day). Imperial Leather do a unicorn foam. Stick it under the tree with a squirt nearby. Job done.

£50 is the booze sorted for the day. Much more recyclable.

SoyDora · 18/12/2018 20:54

Ah, it actually exists?! DD2 asked for one and I assumed it was something she’d made up. Didn’t even bother googling it!
She’s not getting one Xmas Grin

ILoveDolly · 18/12/2018 20:55

I have not bought 80% of what's on my younger children's list because they are either unsuitable (an 18 game for a console we don't have) or just crap (Stink bomb? No)
They will receive nice gifts but not everything they asked for.

madcatladyforever · 18/12/2018 20:58

Don't buy it, kids have to learn they can't have everything they want. I would never buy toy guns for my son no matter how much he complained about it. He had to save for stuff like that out of his pocket money.

Blankiefan · 18/12/2018 20:59

Thanks for the moral support. I feel better about dashing her hopes!

My dd put it on her list too and I didn’t buy it, too expensive for a piece of plastic that will get used twice at most. They usually forget most of what they put on their list any way and i gently discourage the tat requests throughout December so they know they may not get it

superram · 18/12/2018 21:01

Santa doesn’t bring shit your mam says no to-my kids are aware of this.

Flutternotsoshy · 18/12/2018 21:01

If you are then so am I.

  1. Have heard so many bad reviews that it doesn't seem worth it.
  2. I don't do slime in my house. Just had new carpets and the only room I'd be happy with her having it in is the kitchen which is tiny.
  3. Overpriced rubbish!!

She has slime at Nanny's house because nanny has wipe clean wood floors and doesn't mind it.

It was on her Christmas list. But Santa only buys one or two items cos he has to get all the kids stuff. So won't be big drama when she doesn't get it.

Vicious2018 · 18/12/2018 21:01

Dd luckily didn't ask for one but I wouldn't have bought it anyway. Or maybe just to see dh's reaction when I show it to him :).

zeeboo · 18/12/2018 21:07

I refused too. I am positive it's going to be the chocolate coin maker of its generation and end up ignored by December 27th.

bookmum08 · 18/12/2018 21:09

When mine was 5 she wanted a Furby. She didn't get one. I was fairly honest ("they don't do much") and said she wouldn't be getting one. She got a Sylvanian Families set instead. Which we still have and is still played with (5 years later).

Twitchintervention · 18/12/2018 21:10

My 10 year old DD also had it on her Santa list and it was an instant no from us, I have seen the year where we would be hunting for one the week before Christmas but I have made a conscious effort to cut back on plastic and shite this year.

If it helps any, read last week that it comes apart quite easily and the slime to run out, lots of people have been complaining of stained carpets...

Twotome · 18/12/2018 21:16

I would get it if money isn't an issue. It may be tatt to you but imagine her face on Christmas morning when Santa has got her the present she has put on her list Xmas Smile

PickleMeThis · 18/12/2018 21:23

Ah Santa always brought the things mum said no to. That’s how we knew he was real! Mum would never buy slime or moon sand but Santa would!

Mamabearx4 · 18/12/2018 21:27

My friends dd got one for her birthday a few days ago, its rubbish, she said her dd had to pull the slime out of the mouth rather then the supposed method. Im glad it wasnt asked for in this house

CrookedMe · 18/12/2018 21:37

I told my kids that I've already written to Santa saying no thank you to slime and glitter.

They'll get over it! Am I buggery having some abomination that shits slime in my house.

I'm not that stupid.

Stubbornmare · 18/12/2018 21:42

My DD also asked for this, it was an instant no. We probably could afford it, but I'm reluctant to spend so much money on 1 toy that she will lose interest in by boxing day. This year I've been buying things that will last and be played with over and over ... Also less messy ones Grin

Asj0405 · 18/12/2018 21:51

Another one here that hasn't bought it despite it being on the list.

I have bought too much tat over the past few years and (Yes furby I'm looking at you which was played with once, hatchimals that did nothing after hatching Hmm) and found regardless of what the TV tells them they want I actually know what will be played with and what will be in the corner of the room collecting dust within a few weeks.

£50 is a silly amount of money to me for something that will provide a couple of days amusement so I havnt bought it and I don't feel even the slightest pang of guilt.

Christmas morning they will be so delighted with what they ve got they won't even think of the pooping unicorn.

Best advice I can give any one is if in doubt about any toy watch the YouTube unboxing/review videos for it, soon makes you think twice when you see how pants it actually is Grin

Fashionista101 · 18/12/2018 22:02

You know on Christmas morning it's the one thing she'll mention not unwrapping Grin

I'm being a dick, don't buy it! My niece asked for. Pooie Vuitton 😂😂😂👏 I was tempted to get her it just because I was hoping she's be into LV but then thought about a preloved tiny LV with tubs of slime. My sister doesn't see the funny side lol

MrsScamander · 18/12/2018 22:07

Don't buy it. It looks naff.

Phillip Scoffield also tested it in the How to Spend It Well series and said not to bother.
